Put a crew of illegals on a ship and set them out to sea. We’ll see how long they last without us.
Coming soon: USS Bill Ayers, USS Al Sharpton, and (last but not least) the USS Barney Frank.
Congress should just order them to rename it.
I guess this will eliminate the plan to name the next one the USS Submissive...
Here's to hoping the ship's first voyage is a hold full of lettuce harvested by non-union labor...
Pandering. How else do you explain USS George Bush, USS Gerald Ford, USS Carl Vinson, USS John Murtha, USS John Warner, USS Jimmy Carter, and on and on and on.
It's a 41,000 ton, Lewis and Clark class cargo ship, the T-AKE-14, USNS Cesar Chavez. We have built 13 and this will be the 14th.
Still, naming ANY US Naval vessel (in this case a US Naval Ship - USNS instaed of United States Ship - USS)) is an abomination and a slap in the face to the military and all Americans. Cesar Chavez was a marxist/communist agitator. He was not a loyal American.
Representative Hunter, a Marine veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, got it right. He said that it was indicative of the Navys politicization.
This decision shows the direction the Navy is heading. Naming a ship after Cesar Chavez goes right along with other recent decisions by the Navy that appear to be more about making a political statement than upholding the Navys history and tradition,
We simply must get rid of Obama and his entoire administration and the Congress that is abetting him. He has made many appointments that will take years to get rid of and they have hired like minded, and promoted like minded people who we will be years ferretting out of positions of authority and impact.
People who make hair-brained and anti-American decisions like these.
The USS Barney Frank will no doubt be a small submarine.
Personally I liked it when they were named after fish, or was that just submarines? No matter, I think they should all be named after fish...or maybe battles that the USA won!
Thanks for the information, Jeff. It is a small consolation.
The Navy has many heroes they could choose from. This choice has no relevance whatsoever. I’m thinking this is the type of ship that is used in their many humanitarian aid missions??
This was a very shabby, cheapening move by SECNAV to make shortly before the 70th anniversary of Pearl Harbor. For shame.
I was thinking more of a flagship for a Rear Admiral.
The torpedo men will have a problem. “Hot, straight, and normal” will be considered hate speech.
Fish don't appropriate funds for carriers and other ships. Congress does, and the Navy is well aware of that. So if you want a multi-billion dollar shipbuilding appropriation to get funded then what better way than to name it after a former member? Or a president of the majority party? Or the hero of an important voting block?
Battles,states,cities,heros.
Love the Brits with names like Dreadnought, Warhammer, Illustrious, Fortitude etcetc.
NO political hacks, or PC icons.
Our commie scum are no better.
Postal Service rules were always that you couldn’t appear on a stamp until some years after you were dead.
That always seemed to me to be a reasonable restriction on ship names.
Of course, the USPS dropped that rule, just this year. Expect to see an Obama stamp, next summer.
Ah. That explains why nothing turned up when I googled for SS Cesar Chavez.
I did find this from Barbara Boxer, after inserting USNS instead:
I applaud Secretary Mabus for continuing the Navys rich tradition of naming these supply ships after pioneers, explorers and visionaries by honoring César Chávez, who worked tirelessly to promote fair working conditions and equal rights for all Americans, Boxer said in a statement.
When they name the Che Guavera, most kids will already have the T-shirt.
This vessel is used to supply combat vessels. it is a very critical ship.
They are operated by civilians with a very small US Navy contingent for comms and the like. They did this several years ago to save costs. but they are completely unarmed...which I believe is foolish because in any conflict they will be targeted. If you can keep our vessels from getting supplies, you ultimately will keep them from fighting. Thse vessels should have some adequate self-defense armament like they used to.
The entire class is supposed to be named for pioneers and explorers. It is a progressive stretch on sickening proportions to try and name Chavez as a pioneer and explorer like Lewis and Clark and others.
A lot of them are named for obscure people IMHO. What about Daniel Boon? What about Zebulon Pike? What about Sam Houston, Davy Crockett? etc.? None of these currently have any US vessel named after them.
Anyhow, this is what we have come to. Our economics is being destroyed, our free market, our military, our foreign policy, our energy...even the names of our vessels now.
