Iran has been at war with the USA since 1979. US embassy attack (an act of war), USMC barracks bombing in Lebanon (an act of war), providing EFP (explosive formed penetrator) IED’s to the Afghan and Iraqi (al Qaeda) non-uniformed enemy combatant/saboteurs/assassins. (all of whom are not given protections under the Geneva conventions of which the Taliban/al Qaeda are not signatory parties, and therefore are subject to summary execution under Geneva convention rules.) All acts of War. If it was 1900, we would have already brutally defeated Iran in an unrestricted war.
I could win a war vs. Iran in a week. Set a date for their anti establishment citizens to riot. The day of the riot bomb the Revolutionary guards, basiji, and gendarmes as they gather to quell the riots. Bomb the refineries and crude oil transfer equipment. Bomb all electical distribution hubs. Bomb every Iranian Navy vessel. Air drop tens of thousands of assassination pistols to the anti government rebels. Have a BBQ on Friday night. Watch the NCAA football game of the week on Saturday. Worship the god of choice on Sunday. Read the Newspaper on Monday about the collapse of the Mullocracy.
HK’s date back to the Shahs time.
The Shah set up a manufacturing plant for them.
“No ground troops while bozobammy is in office. Surgical strikes to prevent civilian losses.”
It’s a truism of war that you can never win without putting boots on the ground. Airstrikes to soften up the targets are just fine but you’ll always have jock rash if you don’t take decisive action.
It seems SOMEBODY has decided to strike back.
I think it is both the US and Israel.
Obama thinks he can avoid war, or worse for him politically...a nuclear Iran by these methods.
He might be right.
While the military damage is not enormous and could not destroy Iran's capability, these attacks are causing ENORMOUS PSYCHOLOGICAL PRESSURE in Iran.
The Iranians know they cannot win a shooting war and have concentrated their efforts on the propaganda and intimidation war.
Hitting Iran and not claiming "credit" is brilliant IMHO. Either they will start the full-on shooting war (which the good guys win easily), or the people take to the streets again...seriously, or perhaps even members of the regular Army decide they've had it.
Odds of one of those occurring, IMO, are about 25%.
It's worth a shot. After that we use whatever force is necessary to ensure the permanent death of the Iranian Bomb.
In the mean time enjoy the EXCELLENT theater.
"It works".
Not against "insurgents".
The only method that works is when a signle bullet leave a window in a little shack...the entire city must be razed and burned to the ground. Completely.
Move to the next one.
They are committed to total war. We must be too.
its a minority who are crazy in Iran....
“Unconditional Surrender.
It works.”
I’ve never really understood this “measured response” crap. Overwhelming destruction and survivors (if any) suing for peace after unconditional surrender brings real peace. Anything else is a very temporary illusion. Iran had already done more than enough to provoke this by arming their agents in Iraq leading to the deaths and severe injuries to thousands of Americans.
Total victory has been shown to be the only way to a long-term peach again and again throughout history, which no one (except the military) actually studies anymore.
our current “leadership” knows exactly what its doing....will get a nice war going against the hated Iran just in time for the election....and you know, it would be unpatriotic to criticize a president when there is a war...
/sarcasm/
IRAN is the target and yes they are going down.
Amen to that brother! We owe them a helluva payback...going all the way back to 1979. It's coming.
And I assure you...I have not forgotten how our Marines were murdered in that cowardly attack in Beirut!
It's ironic; the legendary Ronald Reagan admitted this event was probably the the worst day in his life; and, yet today very few seem to remember that even his Presidency was imperfect.
Many mistakes were made which created an environment that facilitated the truck bombing ...and, even then, the administration insisted on “showing the flag” while career diplomats imposed a litany of overly restrictive ROE’s that frequently left Marines exposed to both snipers and indirect fire from mortars.
If you haven't read it, Eric Hammel’s book, “The Root” is an excellent account of the bombing of the Marine Barracks in Beirut and the events that led up to it.
