...supposedly fired each time it cocked and yet he could twirl it and then pull the trigger..."The secret to this was a small hinged piece of metal in the trigger housing. Folded down, it allowed that twirl which cocked the rifle, but folded up, it pulled the trigger at the end of the cocking movement. I owned a toy version of the Rifleman's rifle as a kid. :D
