Whether anyone liked Santorum enough to support him or not...looks like there is a strong possibilty he will withdraw...very sad news. GOP hopeful Rick Santorum campaigns with a seriously ill daughter at home

By Melinda Henneberger

SIOUX CITY, IOWA — At the lectern in a packed convention center last month, Rick Santorum spoke haltingly, not for the first or the last time, about his seriously ill youngest daughter, Isabella , who has the genetic disorder Trisomy 18. Half of all children with the chromosomal anomaly, more common in girls, are stillborn. And of those who do survive, only one in 10 makes it to her first birthday.

Wasn’t it Saul Alinsky that said something like , in an election, destroy the opposition opponent with character attacks. I don’t have the exact quote...........sorry!

I question whether the allegations hurt him. Affairs or not, Cain just wasn't a serious candidate. Look, Newt has had a scandalous past, and he rose as Cain fell, so are Republicans actually turned off by Cain's alleged affairs? This sort of candidate pops up a lot--voters get excited, have a brief dalliance, then realize the guy isn't actually qualified. Obama was in that camp, but he miraculously won. Cain is what usually happens.

(As a disclosure, I'm not a supporter of any of the candidates, just someone who'll vote R in the general.)

My take on this....

1) I think that he probably did have a thing going at one time with White, that it was long over and that, for whatever reasons of guilt, fear or compassion, he has been helping her financially.

2) I do not think that this should sink him as a candidate - it will but it shouldn't.

3) He probably did say a couple of dicey things to some women back in his corporate days...but that type of banter is de riguer at corporate events with an open bar. I say, "so what".

4) I like the idea of Herman Cain as a serious contender better than I do the reality ---- 999 was always a non-starter for me.

WADR, I beg to examine some of your remarks, one by one.

1. “His standing in polls is cratering. Supporters are wavering if not fleeing. Fundraising is suffering.”

First of all; I have seen no clear evidence whether Cain’s support is cratering, or not. It may be, but there have been no reliable reports that I have seen.

2. “And, these days, the former pizza company executive is less a serious candidate than the butt of late-night comedy jokes after a string of accusations of sexually inappropriate behavior and, now, an allegation of a 13-yearlong extramarital affair.”

Which Republican candidate HAS NOT been the butt of late night comedians’ jokes?! Are we going to let the likes of Letterman select our candidate? A lady who I admire a lot, Ms. Alveda King, came out in defense of Herman Cain today, and the goods on the accuser are just now oozing out into the open. I intend to keep my powder dry and wait a little while before judging.

3, ‘”His chance at winning the presidency are effectively zero,” said Dave Welch, a Republican strategist who worked on both of John McCain’s presidential bids.’

Wow! There’s a great resume’ highlight; that he helped in the destruction of ol’ John?! The fact that Mr. Welch participated in McLame’s campaign puts him squarely in the same trash bin as Rollins, Beckel and all the other failures as campaign managers! IMHO

Cain on Hannity now, saying it’s unfair to his family and supporters to make them keep going through this. Will announce by Monday whether he quits, keeps going, or “suspend” his campaign. Says someone is payting these women, and he will find out and expose it in any case.

When the first two women came forward with past sexual harassment resolved cases I was skeptical of them. Anyone that has worked for a corporation has seen or experienced some ditsy female spouting off sexual harassment accusations at the drop of a pin, so to speak, and I thought Cain had been the recipient of same here. But his admitting to funneling money to this latest female friend secretly(unbeknown by/to his spouse) for many years doesn’t meet the smell test to me?

Cain doesn’t seem to be a viable Presidential Candidate anymore?

The Dems just cannot take a chance on Herman capturing the nomination. If this bimbo doesn’t do the trick they will trot another one out in a couple of weeks. He is toast and I hate to see it happen.

Welcome to the United Soviet States of America..where the Pravda State Media “vet” the candidates to the pleasure and needs of the RinoCrat UniParty.

This “election” will be a non-election...featuring the state approved “candidates”-whose only distinction is whether they are black or white.
