The GOP Establishment and the Beltway crowd is pleased. If either Newt or Romney is the GOP candidate, nothing will change. Newt will go through the motions (like he did with the Contract with America and Mitt won’t even try to fake it.
Once again, the grass roots loses out.

It would be interesting ultimately to learn why Cain-likers are swinging toward Newt. Without implying a calculated tactic by Newt, because it appears that he and Herman are indeed friends, it certainly seems to be helping that Newt was notably vocal in his support for Cain when the harassment allegations hit. Cain supporters also may see Newt as less of a RINO than Romney.
I guess it’s “Newt’s turn”.
