To ask forgiveness also carries with it the idea that one will quit doing the thing that requires forgiveness.
I once asked a preacher who had answered a womans question about forgiving an abusive husband what she should do and before he answered I asked him if she should go back to the abusive husband and he smiled and replied forgiveness can be given at a distance. It doesn't require to live in an abusive situation... I could hear where he was going to go with his answer and thats why I inteceded with my question...she was married but there was no bible statement about returning to that situation...
It is persumption to forgive someone that has not asked for it. Maybe they don't want to be forgiven. We can maintain a non-hatful opinion of such a person, but forgiveness not asked for is silly. To harbor a grudge against said person is not christian, but forgiveness is not automatic...It must be asked for. (of course I am going by memory of scripture and if I am wrong, a good freeper will correct me)
As far as helping this woman who appears to be a lying, slandering person, why should she get rewarded for the sin of bearing false witness against someone...it only encourages such behavior..She can find some church or social agency to help her out otherwise, she can live in the street...and being one that did take in a stranger in need one time, some perfer to not work when offered and would rather sleep in her vehicle than do work and get paid. She had all kinds of excuses and I called her pastor on what could be done and he said he also found her a job that she had all kinds of reasons not to take...We both let her go her own way...you cannot help someone that really doesn't want real help...
Don't we also have to ask God to forgive us our sins, it is not something that is automatic...
True. I still think it would be a classy thing to do. What that woman would do after such a gesture would be up to her.
We disagree so I think this conversation is done...I don’t find it classy to reward such actions...
