Palin would be just fine with me, riding in like Jeanne d’Arc to save conservatism but if that doesn’t happen I’ll enthusiastically back Herman Cain. Both can and will shake both party establishments to the roots and let the chips fall where they may. What they lack in grasp of detail can be corrected by well chosen advisors and their central moral/political compass is better oriented than anyone else.

Gingrich destroyed himself on Amnesty as far as I’m concerned. Not only did he push Amnesty, but he justified it with the intellectually dishonest argument that “we aren’t going to deport 11 million people”, ignoring the strategy of self-deportation which has worked quite well when tried, and setting up the meme for treating opponents of Amnesty as some kind of ogres.
