Don't know about all of you, but this is excessive and unnecessary police brutality.

Don't care who the protestors are--I take a back seat to no one here on conservative principles.

We have reached a new low in the relationship between peaceful protest and the state when police feel they can spray peaceful protestors like insects.

Again, I don't give a crap about some of their views, but this is just plain wrong.

The protesters should be THANKING the police. By spraying them first, the protesters became unable to resist, and dislocations and other injuries were avoided when police pulled them apart.

Videos shot at the scene show a policeman walking up to the protesters, pulling out his can of pepper spray to display to the crowd,

Don't know about you, but when a cop tells someone to leave, and then draws his weapon (non-lethal or not), then that's a strong indication that it's time to leave.

What else do you do when you tell people to leave, and they refuse your order? Open fire with real bullets?

I’m amazed that a FReeper of 13 years would drink Time Magazines and the leftists Kool-Aid.

The video ran 10 seconds before the officer started spraying the students. The video then goes on for about 8 minutes with the students shouting “shame on you.”

Did it ever cross your mind that what took place for 8 minutes or 80 minutes before the officer started spraying could possibly be the reason the pepper spray was used?

I guess you are not aware that people get paid full time wages and benefits to plan ways such as these to manipulate people like you.

I am very sorry you have not seen the sleazy planning in action like I have. After you see what goes on behind the scenes with these commie liars and manipulators you realize it is pure evil.

These people depend upon your human empathy and use it to manipulate. It is unwise to take things at face value with these sleazy manipulators.

On principle, I agree, but knowing the radicals MO, there may be much more than meets the eye here. I work in a union shop. Fortunately paying union dues is optional and I opted out, mainly because they blindly support every dem and liberal cause out there no matter what. Hell, if Jerry Sandusky ran for office as a Dem they would endorse that SOB. Their support for this is certainly a source of shame for me.

When I punish my children they I give them a choice. Either you behave or this will happen. Ultimately the decision is theirs. They have two choices and THEY choose which path to follow. I believe the police advised them that if they do not move they will be pepper-sprayed (they must have been blocking passage to traffic or pedestirans who were also within their rights to expect use of the road or sidewalk). They chose not to move and what the police said would happen, did happen. Why is the police being made out to be anything but keepers of the law..not just for the loudest ones, but for everyone.

You are right -- it is very wrong.

You have no right to interfere

except as established by law!

You have a right to speak.
You have no right to force me to listen!

You are right. They should have gone in with handcuffs and truncheons and just started dragging them off.

A bulldozer would have been even better.

So you obviously have a better way to move people who decline to move after ordered to do so. Let’s hear it.

Aw, Bullshit! With people as pathetic as those dumb-asses, how long do you think that any society could survive. The police put-up with their bullshit for just so long and finally declared and unlawful assembly (it’s in the penal code). When they didn’t move, (after doubtless numerous warnings), the police did the only thing they could do to get them to comply(without REALLY harming them)! When you police-haters want to protest police brutality, maybe you should take your outrage to the streets of Damascus!

Why the furor? Wasn’t the pepper spray strong enough? Did they not follow up with billy clubs? What?

At first glance if one does not get the context it certainlly seems so. However the crowd had been given a lawful order to disperse and vacate the area. When they refuse that order the police have to take action to clear them out of the area. The methods the police have to accomplish this are rather limited and the first concern must be for the safety of not just the police but the demonstrators as well.

It is simply too dangerous with a very high likelyhood of escalation for the police to try and physically remove the demonstrators. Tear gas is not practical as it can too easily effect bystanders. Pepper spray is non lethal and can be directed against an individual. It also limits the chances of escalation from the sprayed individual. It also is less likely to result in claims of severe injury by the police.

Mounted police might have come in handy.

Problem is the protesters were violating the rights of the rest of the public who were obstructed and intimidated by said protestors.

The protesters were in repeated violation of lawful orders to allow the general public to pass in a public right of way unimpeded.

The protesters were a threat to the safety of the general public in a public right of way.

The protesters refused to disperse and resisted arrest.

At what level of criminal behavior would you allow the cops to use pepper spray to control the criminals?

Being pepper sprayed is no different than eating an egg omelet MRE with Tabasco sauce. Just saying.
