It may be a smear machine, but...

a) all of the candidates who make any real impact will eventually have to go through this (the insider-anointed Romney will get a pass until the general election), so I’ll not cry for the next in line.

b) some of the “smears” actually wind up being real things that the candidates have to deal with. Just because it’s coming from the MSM doesn’t mean it’s entirely false — blown out of proportion, maybe, distorted beyond reality quite often. But there’s usually enough nugget of fact to all but the most ludicrous claims that Candidate X needs to go out and address.
