Erm, we British and the Aussies do.
The Limeys and the Aussies dont actually need you.
Send our military packing then.
Fine, the leaving of US troops wouldnt change one iota of UK or Aussie military planning.
American troops in Europe may have been a important bulwark against the USSR, but in 2011 there is no need for them in the UK, other than for their own need to be in Europe as part of US strategic planning as regards the Middle East.
Certainly since 1991, they are not here to ‘defend’ the UK.
To be objective, I also think there is little or no need now for any British troops in Germany bar a small number for strategic purposes re the Med/Middle East.
I find your idea that the UK or Australia somehow ‘relies’ on the US for its defence laughable and ignorant of the facts. The UK and Australia never have ‘relied’ on the US, American force has been since 1945 a valued and strong ally in the regions (Europe/Australasia), but dont confuse that with ‘needing’ American troops there.
I don’t see any need for US troops in the UK, nor Australia nor all sots of other places.
