And Texans made a decision -- are we going to kick these people to the side of the road and they are going to become tax wasters? Or are we going to require that they become citizens of the United States and become taxpayers? We chose the latter. I would still do that today, considering the barriers that if you will, the arena that we have to work in.

Perry no longer tries to hide that he's for amnesty. Amazing.

To be eligible for the Texas EDUCATION Dream act, those children brought into the U.S. (after 3 years of Texas high schools and graduating and wanting to go -- mostly to local community colleges) are required to apply for citizenship when they start PAYING instate tuition.

I also was going to vote for Sarah Palin... I am from Texas and do trust Perry where as I do not trust Romney..People listen to much to others and then get the same habits and cause a problem where there is none..Like all the back biting on these threads..If you don’t care for Perry that is your choice.. Can you just imagine what people that are reading these threads and do not post here think of all this nonsense and name calling.. I just do not like people to step all over me when I have an opinion myself..So then I go into the protection mode..(I am not at all talking about you when I make my statements..)I am talking to all of the ones that continue to attack anyone that is a Perry voter.. To tell you the truth I really do not give Herman Cain a chance to win this election..Just a feeling nothing to do with the women.. Maybe Perry should just come home and we can succeed from the Union..Hey good idea don’t you think!!LOL!

Plus, it's misleading to call in-state tuition a discount. Rather, it's the normal tuition rate. People who haven't lived in TX for at least 3 years (or whatever the threshold is) are assessed a surcharge.

As you say, all students are paying their own way (except those with loans/grants/scholarships). Taxpayers aren't subsidizing illegals' tuition at all.

Now, having said that, the question of whether or not the children of illegals should be assessed the out-of-state surcharge, I think there are rational, non-hysterical points to be made on both sides.

But as rule of the land, as SCOTUS directs , we as Americans have to abide by it until something is done about it. And if we do not abide by the law, then we are subject to the consequences or punishment.

Seems a lot of ppl here is bitching / complaining about illegals and blaming Perry soely for it when it’s SCOTUS’s ruling for the entire US , not just Tx.
Rightly so in complaining, venting, bitching, etc but it’s a law that probably will never be changed. Unfortunately I might add.

Do I like it ? Do I agree with it ? No, I do not.

I think this is a good article. I have been watching him and Cain for a while now. I support both of them and would like to see either be the nominee. Perry does have unique qualifications about Border Security. While he has tripped on this issue some he has been hindered in acting on this issue due to being a Governor of a State he has limited ability to enforce Federal laws. He has spent $400 million on trying to do what he can along the border but 1200 miles is a lot of border to cover with limited resources. The state isn't supposed to have to deal with this issue to begin with so you can only redirect so much money to something you aren't supposed to deal with anyways. Perry is lukewarm on this issue and has done some good some not so good. However I would be interested in hearing his detailed plan on how to secure the border. Other than that I think he is a good all around candidate.

Are you talking about this thread?

Nov 3, 2011: AP: ......"Perry said in an interview with CNN's John King on Thursday that expectations that U.S. authorities are going to arrest and deport up to 15 million illegal immigrants isn't realistic. He added, however, that other Republicans, including fellow Texan George W. Bush, went too far when they previously proposed an immigration overhaul that included a path to citizenship.

The Texas governor also claimed his chief rival for the Republican presidential nomination, Mitt Romney, had once supported amnesty. Romney has drawn criticism for hiring a lawn care company that employed illegal immigrants at his family's property in a Boston suburb for a decade — but has also said amnesty is not appropriate for illegal immigrants.

"You can put a program into place in which these individuals can be identified, and work visas in which they can move back and forth between their countries but not to become United States citizens," Perry said. "And I think that's where McCain, that's where Romney, that's where even Bush went wrong when they talked about the issue that, 'we're going to give amnesty to these individuals,' and people just said, 'no, we're not.'"...

I believe Gov. Perry is the only candidate that truly intends to seal the border.

People moving back and forth across the border...smells like open borders.

smells like open borders.

I suggest you quit sniffing and open your eyes and READ his words.

But what fun would that be? It's more fun to misrepresent the facts.

Besides what I put in the other post here is what Perry really said..

“You can put a program into place in which these individuals can be identified, and work visas in which they can move back and forth between their countries but not to become United States citizens,” Perry said. “And I think that’s where McCain, that’s where Romney, that’s where even Bush went wrong when they talked about the issue that, ‘we’re going to give amnesty to these individuals,’ and people just said, ‘no, we’re not.’”

Perry didn’t elaborate on what such a visa plan would look like, saying only that authorities need to determine a better way to identify illegal immigrants and make them part of mainstream society. He also said the program would only work if the federal government first does a better job securing America’s borders.

That is on this very article..
