my point was that those who don’t want laws against this behavior are arguing that someone has a right to do something more dangerous than driving drunk.

There don't need to be laws against texting. Wreckless, and inattentive driving laws have been on the books in most states for years. Why add texting? Is it not already inattentive or wreckless? Simply inform the public that the cops will write a ticket for inattentive driving for anyone texting while doing under x miles an hour, and wreckless driving for anyone exceeding that speed if they are texting.

That's what a county sheriff did near my hometown in Idaho. Caught texting? Well, that's inattentive driving and a ticket. See you in court.

References to common sense and personal responsibility are quit welcome. But some people needs personal responsibility forced on them because they won’t take responsibility themselves.

We have laws against drunk driving for a reason, and I don’t see anything wrong with doing the same for texting. Any activity that takes your attention off of driving endangers others and yes should be illegal.

Didn't you also have quickly finish your egg mcmuffin so you had both hands free to operate the camera?

Then we know the picture is fake. You should be censored for posting such crap...in fact, I would ban you. Someone with an Obama sticker more than likely can’t read and certainly can’t read while driving as it would take even more concentration. Liar.

...I got this lady on camara reading a book while driving over 55Mph in North Dallas. Not that it matters but... Spell check, camera

...Warning, the way folks are posting on this thread, you're in for some rrrrreal sanctimonious replies for that kind of driving behavior. But, I won't make a judgment. Just pointing it out for others...

...Sorry... /sarc

I’ll paraphrase another post: Reckless, and inattentive driving laws have been on Pennsylvania for years. Why add texting? Is it not inherently inattentive and reckless?

And I’ll ask: Why not simply enforce the laws already on the books?

Not compassionate. But if someone won’t take responsibility for driving a car, then I’ll happily support a law making them take responsibility. Preferably before they kill me or my loved ones. Driving laws exist to keep idiots from doing anything they please behind the wheel. Without laws, some people won’t be responsible.

A teenage girl died Tuesday night in a one-vehicle accident in Butler County that state police said involved texting while driving.

This is tragic and sad. But how did the state police know that she was texting? Are we to presume that they found the instrument she was using and there were incomplete texts on it?

I have little use for any of that "high tech" stuff; it serves little useful purpose, especially for our young people.

“That’s BS and you know it... a stupid thing to say” (from post: Liberals would rejoice in the death of a human)

Really? Have you kept up on the news lately? The UN is concerned and wants population control. Babies, each and every day, are being aborted and it is called “choice”. Didn’t some female politician say that it is better for a child to be aborted than to have to eat Ramen noodles (i.e. being raised in a poor family? Is it conservatives who say “Pull the plug... dehydrate and starve to death people who are deemed not worthy of living anymore? How about death panels... did liberals come up with that joyous idea or was it conservatives? Hence, my statement that “liberals would rejoice in the death of a human” is what they are all about. Sad.. but how a conservative sees a human life and how a liberal sees a human life.. vastly different.

Please see post 92. IMHO, how a liberal sees a human life and how a conservative sees a human life are different. Vastly different. Abortion, population control, death panels... and those were just some of them on top of my head.

An application download for a product called Phoneguard. Keeps your children off the phone when driving. Please consider it for their safety....I’ve got it on my kids phones.

You’re one of the few, I’m afraid.

Is a new law needed? Of course not. Having said that, the kids that we baby boomers are raising *DO* have that sense of entitlement, it’s taught to them from the day they enter kindergarten. I’m old school, cell phones are necessary ONLY when you’re in a jam. Walk through any store in this state and you’ll see adult women jabbering away about nothing in particular, oblivious to their surroundings, and have any of you been in a checkout line behind one? They will say to the employee, “I have to take this call”. It’s rude and they are teaching their kids the same thing.

Just my opinion.

Do me a favor and attend the funeral of the teen that died in the accident. Let me know how the parents behave.

If the parents are liberal, per your definition, they'll be rejoicing. If they're not rejoicing...well, we'll try to figure that out when you get back.

And, if you don't mind taking your observations one step further...

Even if the parents are not liberal, I would guess that at least 25% of the funeral attendees will be liberal...and as such, they should be doing cartwheels and cheering (or some other form of rejoicing). Can you get a little bit of that action on video please, or some still shots to post here?

Why don’t you do me a favor and go back and read my original post before you step up? I commented initially on a FR who discussed “hand wringing”. I asked for clarification and got it... that it wasn’t about looking at the death without sympathy/empathy but about another poster who commented that he/she was glad someone else wasn’t killed in the accident as well.

That being said, I have been to funerals involving young teens. This time last year, I got to attend FOUR of them within three days of each other. And “Mr. I like to call people out before reading what they wrote”... I was the one who prayed for these poor people. Have a nice day.

So...was anybody rejoicing at these funerals, or were they "No Liberals Allowed" funerals?

>>I’m old school, cell phones are necessary ONLY when you’re in a jam.<<

I’m with you.
My kids have one phone. They do not text. If they want to text their friends, they use my phone. It’s an emergency phone only for them.

I watch Judge Judy. She constantly tells parents never to give a kid a car until they are 18. I say, if you use mine, no text. No do overs. Text and mom is driving you.
