Rick Perry is in cred ibly bad at debates

Wow, whenever anyone else was "bad at debates" they were labelled stupid and not fit for leadership.

Good thing that level of abuse is no longer being used by the press on political candidates.

I like what Perry has done in Texas. Yes, he was dealt 4 aces, but he has nurtured that advantage and not blown it in Texas.

However his debating skills scare me when would go 1 on 1 with the fast talking “messiah” in presidential debates. Those debates are watched by majority of voters and most make up their minds based on those debates. Nixon lost due to debates, Reagan scored well in debates, Bush-41 was terrible against Bubba.

Q: What do these two guys have in common?

A: They both went from frontrunner to failure in 3 seconds.

And the only time Kerry’s own supporters got excited about him was when he looked “Presidential” in the debates against Bush-43. Kerry still lost but it was close.

The leftists have and will brand Perry a moron. If he is our nominee he will go into the fall debates branded a moron with 90% of the media openly anticipating his failure. He will perform badly and then be excoriated. This will make it very hard for him to win.

Perry is bad at debates but he was better, perhaps in part, because he was treated like an also ran.

Further, Perry did use his question opportunity to ask Romney about his healthcare plan.

I don't see him having the communication skill needed to close the deal. Romney appears untouchable when he's not getting help from the rest of the table.

yep unfortunately tonight Perry didn’t prove he’s even a close candidate for the nomination.. there are only 3 candidates.. Gingrich, Cain and Romney

I have zero opportunity to see any candidate speak. I dont have television.

But I have seen GWbush speak and he was not good. yet he was elected twice and both times I voted for him.

So I’m saying who the * cares if the guy can’t tell a good story? theres more important things.

“I have zero opportunity to see any candidate speak. I dont have television.”

I don’t either. Do you have Internet? The debates are generally on youtube.

If he is our nominee he will go into the fall debates branded a moron with 90% of the media openly anticipating his failure.

It isn't a 100% certainty, that Perry has to debate Obama.

Johnson didn't debate Goldwater, and Nixon didn't debate either Humphrey or McGovern. I don't remember whether the Gipper debated Jimmuh, but he did debate Mondale. But it is not baked in the cake, that the GOP nominee has to debate Obozo. He can say, "No, I'm not debating Obama -- I'm running instead. No debates."

Now, another thought arises. Say Perry's the nominee; Obozo will want to debate him. Fine. Debate him, but use a "rope-a-dope".

What I mean is, let Obozo soar, let him chatter, let him go on and on and on and on and on ..... and on..... We know the more Obozo talks, the worse it gets for him. People know by now to discount the b.s., so letting Bozo blather on and on on national TV might actually be feeding him poisoned candy.

Let Perry or whoever it is get up there and refuse to debate, but just deliver short canned speeches on every point and NOT try to "zing" Obozo. Just make points, be punchy, and then shut the hell up! And let Obozo make the clever quips and soaring quotes and deathless figures of rhetoric and go on ... and on... and on ..... and on .....

It's still possible for a Perry or a Bachmann or a Santorum to "win" a debate, without any skill at all, by just letting Obozo rave on.

You may be right.... tough as that choice would be.... I may end up going with the Devil I know.... Newt. The others are just too horrific to consider.

Perry is a formidable candidate, and the Left is making it point to marginalize his candidacy. Recall how the WAPO hag was fixated on Perry in the debate.

Not only hard to win but to govern if the odds are beaten.

Perry makes George W. Bush sound like William F. Buckley.

You have to stand back and view the primary season...where tens of thousands of democrats will participate as wannabe republicans. Perry or Romney will likely win....only because they got the extra votes from someone that typically doesn’t vote in the republican primary. Face it....you either have the limited-debate Perry or the Romney who can’t win in the south. It’s a gameplan made for a democratic win in 2012.

The two most painfully distracting issues during last night's debate:

1. Ron Paul's unglued and creeping caterpillar false eyebrow

2. Rick Perry's persistent inability to coherently express thoughts

Apparently, Perry has a history of avoiding debates whenever possible. However, there was some earnest discussion in last night's mega thread about whether Rick Perry is medicated due to chronic back pain problems.

Lackluster communication skills aside, Perry was three days short of an economic plan for a debate that focused on economics. Unprepared. Fail.
