The Trans-Alaskan Pipeline has a layer of insulation with thin aluminum sheets to protect the insulation.

The problem with true double wall in pipeline service, we cannot inspect the layer inbetween for corrosion.

Pipelines run smart pigs to check the inside. Catholic protection systems have test stations to check the fusion bond epoxy on the outside.
