Not sure I’m ready to put a number on it, but I agree that some people are better suited for renting, while others are better buying.

My brother is better suited for renting. We joke that it’s because he’s a software guy (professional programmer), and home maintenance is a “hardware problem”. That’s probably part of it, but he also has pollen and dust allergies so severe that mowing a lawn has him in misery for a week. He’s in a condo right now, and it seems to fit his situation very well.

On the other hand, I am incredibly territorial. I like to grow unusual plants, and I hate having to ask permission to plant them where I want. I’m planning to raise livestock (ducks, chickens, rabbits, quail, sheep, turkeys, and geese are on my list so far) and would chafe under any laws restricting what I could raise or how many. I even like being able to build, remodel, or tear down by myself. If I want a smokehouse, I’m going to jolly well build a smokehouse! For me, owning is the option that makes the most sense.

I agree, and tend to think that government tax subsidies and lending pressures have made more people homeowners than makes economic sense.

I understand few were innocent in this. Democrats clearly hold the majority of fault, this isn’t even disputed in the real world. The references were made not to anger, but to bring to the surface.
