This is what happens when the police lose control of the city’s criminal element. She feels a need to grab hold of something that scares her - for survival.
If the government would just lose control of the business element, people would create their own businesses and jobs. Which Amendment is that freedom under?

She can buy a gun in VA. If DC tries to arrest her, she'd better be ready to file a lawsuit. This is the only way to send its liberal bureaucracy a message. DC has refused to conform to Heller so citizens will have to take matters into their own hands. If you need permission to exercise a right, its NOT a right!

Shameless self-promotion! :)
The series is excellently written for those who have not read anything by Matthew Bracken. Up until I took the plunge with Enemies Foreign and Domestic I considered Steven Hunter to be the premier author in the genre. Bracken is clearly his equal and superior in weapons knowledge and integration. But, as the author has indicated, the plots are timely. So, be prepared for a trip into the frighteningly possibly.
