I read this suggestion on ‘Zero Hedge’ a few days ago I think.

I guess it’s a possibility; but unless you can slay the spending dragon in Washington it would be a temporary fix at best.

Hmm.. not sure if this is a good plan. So SS is traded for land. People move onto the land. Are unable/unwilling to make a living off of it. Or they sell it to buy drugs. They become destitute/hungry. They end up on welfare where they are supported for the rest of their lives by the government anyway.

Even if the government awarded land in lieu of SS payments, you just know it would turn right around and impose property taxes.

The EPA would forbid you from doing anything with the land, but it would be “yours”.

If he thinks giving people rural land in the middle of no where, when they think milk comes out of a can, yes, I am. When they start starving we will be called on to bail them out.

I believe high speed rail and infrastructure are the modern equivalent of a mule.

Besides, only a heartless rethuglican would enslave a mule.

As far as I’m concerned, any idiot who wants to join the wall street hating anarchy crowd may as well pin the swastika on their collar right now.

Most Federal land is high desert - sagebrush and rocks with no water.

I’ll gladly take that deal, as long as the parcel of land I get is smack in the middle of the Rocky Mountains.

In exchange for those who choose to opt out of Social Security and forsake any future claim, why not pay them off with 40 or so acres of land?

40 acres of BLM, DOA or DOI scrub land. Does Williams realize that this land held in trust for the nation is primarily incompatible with sustainable agricultural practices today?

Now, if they were to offer whole sections with water and mineral rights, I might be interested.
