He is full of sh#t. In a different interview he said those in the Mob were good people. If he was truly a “lifelong humanist and pacifist” don’t think he would be praising the Mafia. He said what he felt and when his agent told him to backtrack he did.

About half of the Scout leaders in my troop where Italian-American World War II Army combat veterans from New York City. If I know them at all, any, each, and all of them would punch Tony Bennett in the mouth if he made remarks like that in front of them.
