Me too my friend. I allowed myself to be drawn into a bit recently which is completely out of character for me. But the intractable attitudes of some just did me in, I guess.
Considering this stuff was not hardly even part of the 1992, 1996, or 2000 campaign tells all of us that his narrow focus on this issue changed after the 2000 election. He went completely off the cliff after elected office to make money and try to rehab his ruined legacy and pointless existence. The Democratic party as a whole for the past few decades has carried the water for the enviro-nazi movement, so I am not excusing Gore any more than Obama or the rest of the socialist party. I am just saying Gore post 2000 is a different beast than before. He was considered the most conservative or one of the most conservative options for the Democratic party in 1988, and Perry having been an elected Dem supporting him is not of any real relevance.
It is part of the overall evaluation, yes, but it is about a 1 on a scale of 10. People of each party support people in their own party. We've seen Leiberman (as an Independent) support McCain, and we saw Zell Miller support Bush in 2004 as he was retiring from the Senate. Other than that, there is almost never a cross party support in a presidential race, especially amongst up-and-comers like Perry was in the late 80s.
Florida???? Try Texas, sweetie. I think Perry is being attacked unfairly on border issues.
One is that illegal immigrants do NOT get a better deal than other Texas residents. They do get the advantage of in-state tuition, which is pretty dang high. There are certain requirements for these students to be eligible for the in-state tuition.
Two is that this bill was originally passed (almost unanimously) in 2001. There was a far different climate regarding illegals in 2001 than there is now. I dont think a bill like that would stand a chance now, but it was popular then and Perry signed it. I dont think he would do it again, but as we all know, its easier to pass a bill than to unpass one.
So I think Perry is okay on border issues. He is also practical. He knows the territory. Technology and troops are the answer, not a million mile fence which, if not guarded constantly, could easily be gotten over, under or through.
As long as we make the effort... others will too.

Lakeshark, I haven’t said once that Gore was a conservative.
He was the most conservative of the Democrats running in 1988.
I understand your personal disdain for Gore, but you are looking at it from the right side of the aisle. In 1988, southern Democrats knew that DUKAKIS was a flaming lib. Jesse Jackson, oh yeah, he was a flaming lib. From their perspective, Gore was more conservative than those other candidates and they were sticking Democrat.
Really, it’s not that hard to understand.
Gore's voting record was every bit as flaming lib as Dukakis, he either fooled your Texas democrats, or they just went on perception of his prior pro-life record as a congresscritter.
Defending Gore as a "more conservative democrat" is simply not possible. He wasn't, and his record proves it. I understand why Perry and his campaign staff wants to claim he was "more conservative", it sounds plausible from this distance, but frankly it's a fake excuse for a bad move. The main thing the facts show are that Perry wasn't as conservative as he is claiming and his record in Texas governor shows that to be true as well.
I cannot stand Kay Bailey Hutchison, but there were reasons why SP had to come in and rescue his sorry butt from defeat by Hutchison. He told the voters he would not run for President. He lied and as soon as the Big donors knew they could throw money at him and he would break his promise,he was in. This is not acceptable, and if this kind of crap is not stopped soon we might as well change the Washington Monument to a huge dollar sign.
On Glenn Beck's news break this morning, the gal newsreader mentioned that Donald Trump had spent lots of money wining and dining Perry, and that he had only bought Sarah Palin a slice of Pizza. This tells you everything you have to know about Perry. Donald Trump knows who he can buy and who he cannot, he is an expert at it.
Between Mitt Romney, and Perry there is one I don't like but can trust and it is not Perry.
Actually I think Ron Paul is more trustworthy than Perry and he belongs in an insane Asylum.
Well, okay, then.
Great photo. Part of the promo for “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Perry?”
Any day now, FR will host a special “I Told You So” edition which will probably nuke-melt the servers.
