I remember when it was mandatory to put silver nitrate in baby’s eyes at the moment of birth in order to prevent blindness from gonorrhea. They didn’t ask the mother if she was a good christian or a loyal wife, they just treated everyone as if they had the disease. This mandatory protective measure kept a lot of children from developing blindness due to this disease.
