.... the mayor talked about adding 90 minutes to the school day, saying I cant have kids on the street at 2:15, Lewis recalled. ..... She said she told him, So this is not about education. This is about safety. ... This is babysitting and warehousing.2:15?!? WT ....
I went to Chicago Publik skuuls and I never got out at 2:15. Not in Elementary or High School. So when did that nonsense start?
In Elementary school we all got out around or after 3:00pm (3:15?) And in HS we picked out our own classes and schedules, and the earliest I ever got out was after 9th period, near 3:00pm. And in my Soph and Jr years I got out after 10th period, almost 4:00pm.
I had Two Majors that were 'two periods long'. Wood Shop was one, Mechanical Drawing - aka: Drafting, the other. I choose Drafting as a career after HS and that worked our pretty darn good. Thank You Mr Barry.
The only kids that got out of HS 'early', like 2:15 were those with confirmed jobs. They got out after 7th Period -- if their Class selection allowed it.
It's no wonder Chi has a 47% drop out rate for HS and those that do graduate are dumber than dumb. They learn zero in Elem School so they can't handle the harder stuff in HS. So get out at 2:15pm? Sheesh, why even go. Stay home and watch cartoons.
