Mike:
Don’t underestimate the Chinese.....a couple of years ago, one of their electric subs surfaced a few feet from one of our carriers, (protected by task force), and we didnt even know it was there! (until then!~)
I’m throwing the “BS” flag on the whole story. The Gooks might have shot a secret beam at one of our planes and confoozed something electronic. But they didn’t knock out a GPS satelite with it. And we don’t have a piloted plane that can’t fly without being able to receive a GPS signal. We need the real version of this story——and back in March?? Nothing to see here folks-—just move along now.
Sounds like the plot of a James bond movie. Oh wait! It was!
You mean like KAL 007?
Bull. Overboard? Do you believe this? Do the windows roll down or do the doors open? The Chinese got ALL of the good stuff plus they humiliated the U.S. Military and Bush.
Crew members of the EP-3 reportedly tried to smash computer gear and hard drives with hammers, and even tried pouring coffee into disk drives and computers in attempts to destroy them to keep sensitive information out of Chinese hands.

I guess you’d rather they all killed themselves by ditching the plane into the ocean?
The Chinese could not have humiliated Bush unless he wanted them to. Dianne Feinstein cried and begged Americans not to retaliate or go after the captured crew. Bush passed the Chinese test by acting cowardly and ineffective.
The Chinese knew they had nothing to fear from a Bush presidency after his performance and the performance of our Congress during this incident.
It wasn’t anywhere near a “few” feet. The sub surfaced “within viable torpedo range” which can be anywhere from 1000 feet to a few miles.
I know for a fact it was more than a mile away from the carrier itself. Still too close for comfort and obviously an embarrassment for the Navy, but not necessarily a technological achievement.
Beyond that, the carrier they have is a 30 year old Soviet knock off. It only has VTOL capability and very limited offensive weaponry. It would be gone within minutes in an engagement.
Boom, Big Badaboom!
