Nineteen percent (19%) of Democrats favor a basic income grant in the United States, a view shared by just three percent (3%) of Republicans and nine percent (9%) of voters not affiliated with either party.

This is an assault on freedom, natural rights, the proper function of government, and the proper definition of true justice by parasites.

In a country where 45% of the people pay no income taxes and probably a third or more are on food stamps, I am shocked that the number is 11%. If this poll is accurate, this is actually good news.

Also, Nixon — that “conservative” President — actually floated doing this in 1970. Teddy Kennedy et al. drove the price up, and the “silent majority” raised enough hell that the idea was dropped. Then, when George McGovern proposed giving everyone $1000 in the 1972 campaign, he was mocked as a wild-eyed socialist. Which of course he was. Unlike his EPA-founding, Taiwan-betraying, detente-inventing, Great Society-consolidating, gold-standard-abandoning, wage-and-price-freezing opponent that year.

"I never thought this day would ever happen. I won’t have to worry about putting gas in my car. I won’t have to worry about paying my mortgage. You know. If I help [Obama], he’s gonna help me.”"

Median income in the US is around 32k for all adults. There are about 200 million working age adults, making total personal income of 6,400,000,000,000. To give 350 million people $5,000 each would cost 1.75 trillion. That works out to about a 36% flat tax, just to pay the basic allowance. However, each taxpayer receives a 5k rebate making the net effective tax rate much lower. Only a 0.75 trillion hit or about 8% average tax. You would have to figure out the transition but if it ended all entitlements it might be more sustainable.

I’d love for someone to follow up on Peggy the Moocher. It would be great if she was unemployed, in foreclosure and her car having been repossessed.

I guarantee out of 10 Americans today, you could get 1 to agree with 1 or all three of these questions.

Sigh - you're probably right.

Might I suggest Iwo Jimo or the Aleutian Islands. Or how about King William Island. I hear it is lovely this time of year.

I’d chip in on a long-term lease of Ellesmere Island.

I thought this was the fair tax idea. I actually support it. Then we could eliminate all means testing and young low-income men could move back in with their kids and not hurt them financially.

Didn’t the “stimulus” spend something like $865 billion?

That’s almost enough make everyone in America a billionaire three times over.

That might not have been the best use of that money, but it couldn’t have been any worse than what we got.

I actually find that to be encouraging.
Back in the 70’s the number would have been a lot higher, no doubt.

11% favor a proposal for the federal government to provide every single American with a basic income grant, or enough money to enjoy a modest living regardless of whether they choose to work or not

I know just the place- prison.

what's the percentage of the population that currentlylives off the blood of others?
