In spite of all efforts to breed little-boyness out of little boys, they still generally think the latest combat weapons are cool, cool, cool. Whether it’s a trebuchet, a cowboy pistol, or a modern machine gun. And thanks to women’s lib, the girls are finding it acceptable to get on board the battleship too! What ARE kids coming to (sigh) :-)
The St. Louis county fair one time (they may still do it) had reenactors who gave you a small amount of black powder to use in their guns (10 grains or so). The lines to shoot were long and filled with kids and their parents.
They are wholly responsible for my later status (within the year) as a gun owner shooting black powder and buffalo rifles.
So, if any of you are on this board:
1. It’s all your fault.
2. I can’t thank you enough.
It was the first thing I thought of when I read the article. A group of children passing an M16 around while Soldiers look on.
We had a Starship Troopers marathon (1-3) a year ago, and thanks for bringing that up. :)
