To tell you the truth I am glad Obama is riding around in his personal Death Star, a REAL POTUS would have had it painted to match the colors of Air Force One.

The article says that the secret service paid for the buses. WRONG. The taxpayers paid for these monstroucities.

True, but it also appears that the Secret Service purchased the buses outright as a cost-effective alternative to leases. Plus it gives them more control to make security modifications.

This isn't $1.1M spent for a 3-day bus trip. It's $1.1M spent for a vehicle for them to use for 10 years of protective services. (Actually, $2.2M for two.) How much would leasing and modifying two buses cost for this purpose and for that long?

According to the article, the Secret Service plans to use them for 10 years for the President, Presidential candidates afforded Secret service protection, and foreign dignitaries. (I'd suspect the VP as well, but I didn't see it mentioned.)

Why is it that the media only complains when Sarah Palin spends money?

Good point. I recall in 2008 the media having a conniption over Palin standing several thousand dollars on a new wardrobe. Obama spends $1.1 million of TAXPAYER MONEY on campaign buses and it's a non-issue.
