If any changes are made to it, it goes back to the House and needs to be killed there. I suppose if Boehner really wanted 'anything' passed he could cause trouble then working with Democrats, but that was more likely if the bill failed in the first place.(How can they change the bill anyway?)
I remember Rush in 1995 and what he was telling listeners then, because I believed him at the time.
Reid has already he will let the Senate vote on it, then send it back with his revisions. It’s going to happen. What will Boehner do then?
McConnell is shocked that Reid is acting this way, but he shouldn’t be.
Right now, this is obama calling all the shots (through Reid).
HA_HA, I heard Rush use those words a few minutes ago.
Well if Reid can modify it and get enough RINOs to support it and pass it with 60, then sends it to Boehner , and then Boehner is determined to get anything passed betraying the Republicans who originally voted for it by going to Democrats for votes, then we would be screwed. (Unlikely he would survive in that case.)
Alternatively if Reid cant pass it, he modifies it and sends it back, Boehner is likely to tell him to pass a bill before he sends anything over.
I didnt understand Rush's shocked comment.
The cap/balance bill in my opinion was problematic. It makes no sense to tie a balanced budget anti-tax amendment succesful passage that doesnt go into effect for 10 years to a 1 or 2 year debt extension bill, especially when Democrats control the Senate.
A more rational approach would be to be successful forcing Obama to sign spending cut bills, then do the big grand long term stuff after they have a big win in 2012, after they earned it.
House just passed a test vote. It will pass, sent to Reid, where it won’t pass.
Reid will send back his own junk......the biggest change will be the 6 month revisit of raising the debt ceiling (IOW, they will insist on raising the debt ceiling much higher).
This is obama who has made this his breaking point. Reid is sticking with obama.
It comes down to what will Boehner do then? I don’t think there is going to be a good end to this.
Never was.
Those that claimed that the house just never passing a debt increase was an easy win (in spite of all the polls) and the voters would rally to Republicans when the checks didnt go out, and the market crashed, and interest rates went up had an easy job because no Republican Speaker would let that be pinned on him and let it get that far. Since they are safe that it wouldnt happen (maybe), theynever get called on it.
Rush had a tougher time in 1995, the congress actually shutdown the government for 3 weeks and the voters didnt act as he told us they would. He had to spend years spinning it.
