I would also allege that most people would prefer to pay an optional toll (or use another roadway) than to be kicked square in the jaw with outright tax increases.

You're talking about Dallas's situation, where a reasonably complete road net is being amplified with toll roads.

Maybe you need to have a look at the toll-road proposals Perry and "Toll Road Ric" Williamson (the late) were pushing for Austin. There, the only trunk roads NOT tolled were to be the MoPac and I-35. Everything else was to be tolled. Williamson's battle cry was "toll roads, or slow roads, or no roads!!"

Toll roads in their vision of them a) are not what you think, b) are a substitute revenue source to replace the (missing, in their view) state income tax, and c) a curse on the public.

One of the entailed consequences of tolling is that the development and enlargement of infrastructure comes to a complete halt -- look at maps of northern Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania where big toll roads rule. Ditto New Jersey. The tolling authority uses toll money to go to the lobbying mat in the lege every year to prevent alternative roads from being built. It's a curse on the People. Publicanism always is.

CW tried to get me tossed for bringing all that up,

Who are you? And what is this blather you're writing. I have never approached anyone on FR to remove anyone and I haven't a clue who you are or what you're posting.

Come on, Rick.

Are you trying to mandate by EO against FReepers?
Harder than 6th graders under your boot. [/s]

I like Sarah, and Michele, with a nod to Herman Cain. I also like old Fred, but his time is pretty much past, I think, by now. I wish he hadn't had contractual obligations in 2007; but the thought occurs to me, that perhaps the producers of Law & Order contracted him precisely in order to baffle his possibly running for President. They're all liberals over there, of course.

I think Sarah has the best chance to blast through the media headlock by force of personality, and connect directly with the people to neutralize the poison. If we go around believing the MediaRats "won't let us" nominate or elect this one or that one, we might as well let them name the Politburo and the Supreme Soviet for us.

Of course you do. Did you not hit "abuse" and sic the mods on me that time, remember? Then you gloated about it afterward.

Or perhaps Sidebar just appeared out of the blue, alerted to a perturbation in the earth's magnetosphere. Maybe that was it. Yeah, that's what it was.

What had you done that was so offensive?

If you had added something very inappropriate or vulgar I could have asked for it to be removed but I have NEVER asked for a poster to be removed, ever. That’s not my place.

I posted that I think that Rick Perry is a closet power-gay and you got really torqued about the "old rumors" resurfacing. They're still online.

Obama just nominated an openly homosexual attorney to the federal bench. Only 20 Republican senators voted against him; KBH voted no but Cornyn voted for him. Only six Dems did an Obama and voted "present" ... the rest, party-line, voted yes. Not one "no" vote among their party.

What does that say about what Washington culture and the political culture have become? They're festering maggot-heaps of Marxist and homosexual and pederast conspirators. The old stories about powerful men having parties with 12-year-old boys tossed off like canape's, were always around .... now we know they were true.

No wonder the Jesse Dirkhising story, in the immortal words of a Newsweek editor, "didn't resonate".

You don't think we've successfully vetted the man over these many years? God knows we tried ;)

All I know is, IMO he can beat Obama, by hook or crook. At this point, I don't feel the same about anyone else.

If we don't get Barry out, this country won't survive long enough to prove you or me wrong about Perry.

He also made a pandering speech to LA RAZA(!)last year. I find that totally disgusting.

Sorry, I didn't recognize it as a date -- had to go back to my post and reread it to figure it out.

I was just referring to a date in the two weeks before the election -- "October surprise" like Mark Foley in 2006 and the October Meltdown in 2008.

Austin traffic is among the worst in the country. So is Dallas traffic. I don't want to argue with you on this, but there is a multitude of ways to examine this whole debate. Your's is one method, there are several others. No matter the argument for or against toll roads, its always optional to drive on them. I would submit to you that a number of Dallas-area residents would DIE without the 1-35 tollroad through the heart of Dallas, or the Hwy 190 tollroad that circles the northern half of the area. Both of these roadways have alleviated traffic in a huge way. Tons of industrial, office, and retail business have sprung up along them. Add lodging and restaurants. None of these would have existed prior to those toll roads. Sales taxes collected from those businesses are astronomical. Apartments and single family residences have popped up by the thousands as well.

And you want to complain that he hasn't raised taxes, but has in effect created a hidden tax by supporting toll roads. That seems to me a mighty big grasp into thin air to come back with anything solid. just sayin...

You’re wrong. The money is packed behind Perry.
