Sustained economic growth alleviates political and social tensions by creating more for everybody.

The Catholic Church and indeed any form of traditional Christinaity is also an obstancle and is also under attack. Islam is another obstacle, but right now it is an ally of convenience against traditional Christianity.
If Marx were alive, he could move to Israel and qualify as a citizern under the law of return. A Christian Jew cannot.
