Well, him and whoever told Barb that dress was a good idea.

Wonder what's with all the pulled posts? I've been noticing some truly tasteless comments lately. Sad.

RIP, Mrs. Ford

She was an inspiration. God bless her, and rest her soul.

She was?

From Yahoo News:

[Betty Ford] mused that living together before marriage might be wise, thought women should be drafted into the military if men were, and spoke up unapologetically for abortion rights, taking a position contrary to the president's. "Having babies is a blessing, not a duty," Mrs. Ford said.

If they are such a blessing, then why kill them?

I am beginning to think that our presidents are not the source of this nation’s problems, but that it just may be the influences of their liberal wives.

She championed legalizing abortion. Other than that biggie...seems like she did a lot of good.

Advocating the extermination of an entire generation of Americans is not something you can make up for by doing good in other areas.

My take on her tenure as FL...

Whatever her views on issues, if she had been “normal” I do not believe she would have been so outspoken on certain hot button topics. But the fact is, she suffered a painful, pinched nerve while a young dancer, and through the years she succumbed to abusing prescription pain killers and alcohol. I believe it ruined her natural inhibitions and turned her into a “controversial quote machine” for the MSM. They actually exploited this lady.

Did she allow...even encourage...it? Yes, but she was suffering from several medical conditions. What I’ve mentioned isn’t even all she went through. But my point is drugs and alcohol loosen the tongue, and in Betty Ford we had a FL that went way too far. People will say that those really were her true thoughts on issues. Maybe so, but she had almost no “off” button and that is not good for a FL.

I found her very likable, and she was an attractive lady, a loving wife and mother, and a patriotic American who sacrificed much of her own life so that her husband could serve the nation.

The part I disliked was as I described it. I think a lot of it happened because she was “out of control”...

Wonder what's with all the pulled posts?

Apparently you are not allowed to mention the undisputed FACT that Betty Ford was a BIG abortion supporter.

There's a time and a place to post negative opinions and comments. Obituary threads are neither the time nor the place.

The MSM is praising and honoring her because she was an outspoken advocate for abortion. Are we supposed to pretend that she was on the level with Mother Theresa?

Planned Parenthood and NARAL lost one of their most prominent supporters today.

May God have mercy on her soul.

“Throughout her husband’s term in office, she maintained high approval ratings despite opposition from some conservative Republicans who objected to her more moderate and liberal positions on social issues. Ford was noted for raising breast cancer awareness following her 1974 mastectomy and was a passionate supporter of, and activist for, the Equal Rights Amendment. Pro-choice on abortion and a leader in the Women’s Movement, she gained fame as one of the most candid first ladies in history, commenting on every hot-button issue of the time, including feminism, equal pay, ERA, sex, drugs, abortion, and gun control. She also raised awareness of addiction when she announced her long-running battle with alcoholism in the 1970s.”

This thread is posted in NEWS. It references CNN where they are praising her for her courageous stand in support of abortion rights and gun control. If this is an "obituary" thread, then move it to religion or chat. I have only quoted news sources that are singing her praises. If I were to advocate the same political positions that Betty Ford advocated, I'd have been zotted years ago.

True, and, in fact, I agree with you. On the other hand, such intense censorship of people’s expressed opinions reminds me uncomfortably of the politically correct crowd that we’re trying to defeat.
