I E-mailed the TSA on this issue years ago. The idea is obvious; Robert Heinlein included it in “If This Goes On,” a story he wrote decades ago. The Joker also had a bomb implanted in a minion (detonated by a cell phone) in a Batman movie several years ago.

The terrorists can imagine it too if they saw one of the Batman movies. That’s exactly how the Joker set off a bomb implanted in one of his minions. A metal detector might however be able to detect the bomb’s electronics if enough metal is present.

For the last time, it could not have been a missile. If it had been there would have been shrapnel splatter all over the recovered wreckage.

It might not be perfect, but I could live with fictional characters from didactic out of print novels slipping through. Profiling works well for El Al and it used to work well for us - ask some older NYPD. It’s not really disregarded and denigrated because it’s ineffective; on the contrary. America’s guild of commissars are unanimous against it because it lacks ideological purity.
This is where bomb chemical sniffing dogs and/or electronic sensors start to make even more sense. There’d be no groping out this kind of bomb. A powerful X-ray would be needed.
El Al will even let Muslims fly, but they get quizzed much more closely than Christians or Jews do.

Do the same thing for any Muslim that gets captured. When released, let them return to their homes and clans and then detonate the charges by remote control. Difference here is you don't tell the Muslim detainees.
