I don't how they came up with these numbers.

The federal gas tax

California state tax

State and Federal tax total

Sales tax

18.4

35.7

54.1

68.9 - 54.1 = 14.8

~8.75% *drops 1% to 7.75% July 1st

Gas would need to be around $2.50 /g for these numbers to work.

It would be interesting to superimpose the States budget deficit on top of the Gas taxes, wanna bet there's a close correlation?

Connecticut has the same problem as the United States Government,Too damn much spending.They don’t have a money problem.

Too funny to see everyone talking about a few cents per gallon differences.

The Republicans (like my governor Perry) have been VERY SUCCESSFUL in preventing hikes in the gas tax...

...so we will soon get a MILEAGE TAX complete with transponder-tracking of where and when we drive. And once the Dems are through with us, we WILL be paying the equivalent of European rates for fuel (i.e., $9.00 per gallon).

Yet the Republicans (like my governor Perry) will BRAG about not raising the gasoline tax.

Go figure.
