My wife has actually asked me about the volume and duration of the blast, especially at night, and I didn’t know the answer. Thanks for the information. The main freight line is about a half-mile from us, so that lessens the noise quite a bit, but there is a branch line two blocks from us that runs up to the harbor, and sometimes I’d swear the locomotive is right in the back yard. In the days when we used a baby monitor, we would get a stereo effect — we’d hear the blast live and though the speaker.
