These reports remind me of the ‘wildings’ (rampages by large groups of young thugs in training)several years ago. They didn’t have the internet to coordinate them but groups of young (usually male but not exclusively) would amass and decide that they were a large enough group that they couldn’t be resisted or would be hard to identify individually. They use to roam somewhere in NY and attack/beat/rob/rape people. It wasn’t about money so much as instilling fear. It seems like now they are using the internet and that should allow them to get an even larger number of people together. (wonder if the gov will use that as an excuse to police the internet more). How did they stop the ‘wildings’ in NY?
The M.O. has been around for decades, at a minimum, but this type of incident seems to be occurring more often, lately, or at least hitting the news more.
With facebook and cell phones, it would be theoretically possible to have spotters make images of likely juicy victims, send them to waiting pickup teams who would 'flash mob' the victims, for fun and profit. Old tactics, new tech.
C....I’d don’t think it’s getting much worse. But the black on white is on the increase. They don’t even report the nightly shootings anymore. I left Chicago 35 years ago and haven’t looked back. Lost cause.
Or a gang initiation. To weed out possible undercover officer plants, have the new guy commit a violent crime in front of other gang members as witnesses.
The Obama supporters are assuming Rahm will not want to piss off the Obama administration by going after Obama's base. So far, they seem to be correct.
Liberals assumed that the underclass would remain mostly restricted to their own neighborhoods. The liberals are now finding out that gang members have vehicles.
I'm wondering if this is training for 2012? What would be the effect on elections if there were drive-by shootings at polling places in Republican-leaning areas?
Illinois has gun control laws and they're even more stringent in Chicago:
- You need a license to own a handgun.
- You need a permit to purchase a handgun.
- All handguns must be registered in Chicago.
- There is no CHL.
So how can it be that guns could have been used in this crime???

I call B.S. Chicago is a gun-free zone, so that can’t possibly happen. /sarc
