I’m not a boy....i’m an adult female.

If you want to act like a jerk, fine. Have at it. Just know and understand that I am not against killing animals. But I am against letting them suffer for days on end instead of a quick dispatch. Big difference between 10 seconds of shock and awe from a bullet vs 2 days of agony by poisoning.

Are you fairly handy with critters?
I can always use the extra help.

Technically, ALL wormers just “control” infestations.

That’s why they’re given at set intervals.

One dose -kills- the adult worms but does not necessarily eradicate the unhatched eggs or larvae.

The second dose knocks off *that* bunch, who are now adults [approximately 21 days, depending on species/known life cycle] and then you start all over again.

Monthly wormers, at best, keep any potential “load” to a minimum which the dog’s body can manage.

Droncit must be an alternate brand name for what I buy.

So, Panacur *does* kill tapeworms as well as any wormer kills any worm.

Whereas Panacur is, as its name implies, an all around anthelmintic, Praziquantel is a specialized wormer which removes both of the most commonly encountered tape worm varieties, hopefully more effectively but I know people who had to go through several courses of it due to unhatched eggs popping up as adults a few weeks later.
[specifically, dogs who ate the rabbits they’d caught]

Semantics aside, why are we even belaboring this?

My point was and still is, worm your dogs responsibly and regularly.

Obviously, you already do.

:)

Why that came out a double post is as much a mystery to me as where the socks went...

PETA is a commie front group and its minions may be safely placed in your “ignore” file for later auto-deletion, unless they’re actually on your property slaughtering your pets. Then you can just shoot ‘em.

“...old sense of humor?” Why wouldn’t it be? Everything about me is old. ;-p

Raccoons are omnivores. They eat insects, fish/amphibians, rodents AND plants - corn, grapes, etc, eggs and the hens that lay them. they will destroy a small cornfield. They’ve been killed here getting into the horse feed, chicken feed, cat food, dog food. They will eat anything they can get their little hands on.

I had an overeager groundhog in my yard a few years back. He’d lost his natural shyness, which suggested to me that he might have rabies. Threw a rock at him from about 15 feet, disabling him. Whacked him in the head a couple of times with the back of a shovel, killing him. Threw him out deep in the woods behind the house. Cleaned everything up with a lot of bleach.

Next time I spoke to our animal control officer on another topic, told her what I’d done, She asked me next time to save the corpse so that they could come get it and test it for rabies. And advised me to be careful when killing them.

“That one baffled me, too”

When you have to read something three times and you are still scratching your head... I assumed a troll. I understood the point of not allowing animals to roam in Suburban areas (I really don’t think a cat roaming on say 30 acres is a biggy). However, he completely missed out on the torture vs. eliminating an issue. The two are significantly different.

I have no reluctance about protecting my garden, or my property, unlike many here, who believe animal pain is human pain. It is not.

I value human life first, my children, my spouse, myself in that order, then my and my family's property first in our physical bodies, then other physical property for the purpose of supporting my family in life.

I know this is the "property" you speak of and that you hold it for the same reason as I.

Few people understand the basics of nature and the planet. Nature and the planet are here to kill you and your family, and you are here to prevent it for as long as possible.

You will fight this battle your entire life, and eventually you will lose. Hopefully you will have provided your children with a good example of how to win honorable victories for as long as possible.

Unfortunately, some "feel" that selecting humans first can be equated with sadistic pleasure in causing animals pain. I have no interest in causing animals pain, I operate to efficiently preserve the resources and biological health of my property. Animal rights FReepers occasionally suggest perverted motivation for my dealing with what is properly vermin animals. My posts reflect quiet efficiency regarding animals, not sadism.

My real reason is simple, I choose my human family first, and the decision is already made, I will not waste time and resources, or risk my health, to experiment on the "feelings" of vermin. They are dangerous, they go, efficiently, that's it.

Nuts.

It’s hopeless, then.

If I ever meet a needy, one-legged woman, she’s in luck.

“However, he completely missed out on the torture vs. eliminating an issue. The two are significantly different.”

That’s an obvious point that shouldn’t even need making...but apparently only to some.
