I think her weight is a benefit in a way, in that she can’t be oversexualized as the conventionally “pretty girls” can. Her success relies on her talent and confidence. Mama Cass was another powerful fat singer.

Thanks, never heard of her until this thread. She reminds me a bit of Morcheba too.

Chasing Pavements was and is a fantastic song. She won every award that year for new performer, etc. Usually, that’s the kiss of death for a new artist. But not this girl. I’m glad to see that Europe still recognizes talent. You look at Lady Gaga, she is a great singer, all the other crap takes it all away, in my opinion. But she’s the it girl right now. I pray it changes. Her performance on American Idol was so vulgar. Too vulgar for that show.

She reminds me of Basia or Swing Out Sister.

She reminds me of Allison Moyet.

Follow the link for FR keyword Adele that I posted, and you’ll see that she credits Sarah Palin for her wildly successful US debut. That was the most highly rated SNL episode in nearly two decades, the most watched show by far of any in the ratings period.

Who knows, maybe that inadvertant boost has had something to do with Adele’s brave but obviously risky public statements regarding the British government and confiscatory taxation.

U2 is a German band named after U2 boats.

Ugh. Ella Fitzgerald she’s not. Have the standards for ‘good’ - never mind ‘great’ - sunk so low by now? Her singing/wailing hurts my ears.

Starbucks kept playing “Rumour Has It” and “Don’t You Remember” over and over and over. I had absolutely no idea who this person was or is, but I had to leave. I’m glad she’s a success, but all this whining was getting on my nerves.

Gee, it might be a bit premature to fall in love. She’s like my liberal friends who just bought a house and were shocked by all the taxes taken and nothing to show for it. They are still liberal.

Like the liberal who just got mugged.

We’ll take the long view and see how it turns out.

Wow!

That must be before she added 80 pounds!

Are you sure that's the same chick?

OMG! Well Said. I felt the exact same way when I saw Lady Gag perform that disgusting 'thing' at the piano. It was complete pornography in my opinion. As a singer and piano player and as a woman I was totally appalled at how she performed that sort of degrading nastiness on a 'family show.' My husband was also disgusted and shocked as well. (Her intention I am sure.)

All I could think of is all the young women/girls and how that was influencing them and also all the parents that may have felt they needed to talk with there kids afterward.

It was vile and degrading to real pianists and singers. I heard she had penis heels on her high heels that night as well but they blurred them. Wow. Just wow. Makes me very sad something like that made it to the little kids and teenagers who need more role models and inspiration then degrading, vile performers.

There was also L.G.’s second performance as well. That one too was inappropriate for young kids as well

But it is a start.

The goal should be for our views to become “nonpartisan”. When you get past the automatic reaction, you can win.
