F. CHUCK TODD: Somebody in the President's, uh, protocol staff, uh, clearly didn't brief him well enough.

My first thought as well.
Aren’t there people in the Ubama regime who are supposed to handle this stuff? The incompetence of this White House from top to bottom is far worse than merely embarrassing. It’s downright frightening.

Am assuming as well that he was 'so' advised.

That said, Obama holds to an altogether 'different standard' - or lack thereof - thoroughly rooted in arrogant self-servance. Whatever the advice; think Obama imagined the 'toast' was HIS moment; and not the Queen's. Rather than the traditional 'short toast'; his Ego 'won'. With an 'eye to future benefit; Obama went for a 'long form' toast; using Shakespeare to raise himself.

Huge Obama Ego = huge MISTAKE.

No wonder the Queen, put her glass down and did not drink, from that gratuitous and Obama-centered effort that backfired, big time. A disaster of a moment; and one he so richly deserves. . .

“Doesn’t anyone give him advise?”

He sees himself much to good to take advice from any peons. It’s the narcissistic way.

Thanks for the ping mate! I can’t get on here as much as I would like, so tend to miss things.

Have got about half way through the comments so far and want to say two things:

1/ GWB had the first formal state visit by a US President in 2003. Formal State visits are a bit different from the ordinary diplomatic ones, as they are by invitation only and usually reserved for Commonwealth heads of state.

He was polite, gracious, and impressed a lot of people with his wit and sincerity (yes, we had the constant “Bush is a moron” propaganda too and his actual presence made a lot of people think hard about the MSM. I personally don’t think he is the sharpest knife in the drawer, but that he is a true natural gentleman and honest in his opinions and beliefs there is absolutely no doubt.)

2/ State events are choreographed harder and more meticulously than an acrobatic performance. I did my last year in the Army as Queen’s guard, so got to see first hand. Nothing is supposed to be unexpected and everyone knows their lines and cues. The failure was his and his alone. Blaming the band is like blaming the airport for moving when a plane lands short.

As far as the Queen declining to bail him out - well, they did shatter protocol last visit (2009 I think) by not only touching her, but actually hugging her.
According to some of my mates still in the service, that nearly got them shot.
She has a long memory.

re: “President Narcissus” — glad you like the term. Spread it around.

Humor & ridicule of this absurd man-boy narcissist president is one of the best ways to make people see the light on this usurper.
