Actually, polio has not been cured. It has been eradicated by vaccinations. And the job is nearly complete (with 4 nations still having endemic polio outbreaks).

Thank Rotary for the success, because that organization undertook the effort starting about 25 years ago. The WSJ opined that the organization deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for the work.

I’ve benefitted from the MDA doctors and research. Gone to some of the best neurologists with no charge thanks to them. Their research goes far beyond MD and into other neurological-related illnesses.

I don’t support a lot of “charities” but this one deserves all our support and we can thank Jerry for getting the needed attention.

A diagnosis of childhood leukemia used to be a death sentence, but is routinely cured now. Most ulcers can be cured with a simple antibiotic regimen. We tend to forget about once-common afflictions that simply aren't big problems anymore.

You do have a good point there. With all those millions, there should be scientists working around the clock and making at least some progress.

But, then, it’s never easy. These diseases are so complicated that just understanding how they work takes a tremendous amount of time and observation.

I should stand over them with a whip, dressed in lingerie and chanting encouragement from self esteem drills. Or maybe you....:)
