You seem right-headed and well-meaning, so let me respectfully explain a couple of things:
“First, I want to be clear I want a conservative candidate. How did McCain happen? Dunno. It was a weak field and he pretended to be conservative.”
No, that’s not the reason. The reason is, this is the Republican Party we are talking about.
“How did a Mondale or Kerry happen on the left?.”
Doesn’t matter, because its not equivalent. Mondale and Kerry represent the heart of Modern American Liberalism. The same can’t be said of McCain and modern conservatism.
“It is an imperfect system.”
True, but that’s not the point. The point is the imperfect Republican Party. No party is perfect, but the Republican Party is not even close.
“But if we go third party or indy we will lose to Barry Soetero.”
As long as we all take that attitude, then you are right.
“We need to work in the Republican Party to get the most electable conservative we can.”
Been tried and tried again. Doesn’t work, but conservatives, who are mostly intelligent and passionate, practice the definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
“So far I’ve been disappointed with the field.”
Damn right me too.
“I’m interested in what Pawlenty and Daniels have to say because I know little about them.”
We can only hope.
“I am worried about how conservatives respond to the imploding Barry administration.”
Conservatives will respond as usual:
With fear and by being culturally intimidated by liberals: at work, at play, and in our institutions.
