It’s a relative thing. Better the Conservatives than Labour. Labour, with a “u”.

Patton fought in Tunisia.

Then again, I am hazarding a guess military history isnt your strong point.

Sorry for the error. I hadn’t heard about any uproar from the Brits regarding Libya, and figured they were being overly quiet for the same reason as the Dems over here.

We are not exactly happy about it, but the media here is so left wing liberal that you would literally cry. Our most conservative paper is a joke. Our main TV broadcaster is constrained by law to be impartial - or left leaning.

And calling Cameron a conservative is a joke. He is about as conservative as Obama.

Arab League and the Quartet (the EU, Russia, the UN, and the US) says to Israel:
Israel can not maintain the Philadelphia corridor.
However the EU and UN will have their own Philadelphia corridor a few days drive to the west.

WTF?

Expect Italian, Spanish, Dutch and maybe Baltic NATO members to again agree to join in this adventure.

We coudl even see Turks join in on this one.

On the other hand, we can work backwards through the NATO and EU Rapid Reaction Force membership lists....

Out: Portugal, Greece, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Hungary, Finnland, Iceland, Ireland, Bulgaria, Romania, all the Balkans and former Yugoslav Republics,

In: UK, US, Canada, Italy, France

Possible: Baltics, Poland, Ukraine, UAE, Qatar, Saudis, Netherlands,

etc.

The UNIFIL force south of the Litani was overwhlemed doing vehicle checkpoints, doubt the Socialists will sign up for Libya.

Russia isn’t going to do anything. They have no interest in supporting Gaddafi and especially with military force. Tunisia has been asking for assistance since early March. The UK troops will be protecting the refugee camps.

Tunisia has been asking for help since early March. Of course any outside force is going to be there with the permission of the host country.

I’d bet I know more about George Patton than you do. I was simply making a point.

I’d say your strong point is being an ass when you want to be.

And that Conservative in Britain will not remain in office if he can’t get the Libyan oil flowing again to bring down the price of gas in Great Britain, which is probably around $10 a gallon. Also there are two towns (Zintan and Nalut) near the Tunisian border in the mountains of west Libya that have kicked out Qadaffi’s troops and captured a border crossing. There are now thousands of Libyans and foreign employees crossing into Tunisia, and the British troops will probably be very busy trying to maintain order and keep the border open and defended against recapture by Q’s troops.

“Of course any outside force is going to be there with the permission of the host country.”

Hard to know these days if such basic principles are a matter of course anymore.

Are you an historian? Whats your background, if you don’t mind?

I’m out for the day but I’ll look for your response this evening.

BA in History from Glasgow University.

Non practicing historian, some p/t lecturing at local college in Scottish history. Have spent most of my post uni years working in the private sector. WW2 buff and have devoured military history for over 30 years, from child to adult. Former British paratroop officer (7 years, Territorials)

Have studied Patton’s campaigns in minute depth over the years, and have written on them for my degree and for my officer studies. BTW, as a result, I believe Patton to be grossly overrated.

Apologies if I was rude, but as a Briton, and as an historically educated one, the constant American ‘we saved your ass’ nonsense is both annoying (because its crap) and at worst actually offensive to the men and women who fought and died for Britain in two world wars.

Your comment is doubly ironic, as the most famous American battle in North Africa in ww2 was the one where the US forces got humiliated and had to be rescued by a British counterattack: the Kasserine Pass.

Any day now we are going to find Chinese mischief making with advisers and assistance to Qaddafi to drag NATO further into a prolonged conflict with military expenditures that Britain, France and the US can ill afford.
