Good article. I don’t think I have read this author before. Funny guy.
Unfortunately, I agree.
The question really is, are we under or over 50% of educated idiots. Or in other words, have we reached critical mass, the point of no return...
People were smarter 10,000 years ago because to survive you had to be mindful and keep on your toes.
These days people have the luxury of coasting along while being preoccupied with genitalia.
Only if I voted for him - which I didn’t.
Can't argue there.
If you can't appreciate the pure beauty of the violin after hearing this, something's wrong with your ears. I can feel his pain. I work with many of these and have some in my family.
Writer missed a trick here.
Buckley was referring to the Greek word idiothV, which means "a person preoccupied with his own affairs, self-absorbed, a non-participant in public life." (My own definition.)
It didn't really mean an "idiot" in our sense. But yes, Buckley's quick recovery, really wasn't. Naughty Bill.
Buckley was a master of wit and sarcasm. (not to mention the English language) I wish I had watched him more often but I just wasn’t interested in politics in those days.
I think it's a major mistake to sell Obama short. It isn't jsut him, it's that entire Red Cabinet that wrote the Obamacare bill in all its multi-thousand-page glory less than a year in office.
His actions do parse, and they actually appear to be astute .... if you assume malignity and a certain power-seeking agenda. Low bridge, FRiend.
If present trends continue, everybody will eventually get "free" health care from the government.
It won't, of course, be free in any sense other than the way health care is free in France, UK or Canada, but that will be good enough for many if not most people.
Medical services, for most people, will drop in quality from where they are now, and the total cost to society will be considerably higher, but it will be "free" to the user, and that's all many care about.
Being on FB (yeah I know), and being exposed to friends of friends has helped me discover this. I'm stunned out how many-- supposedly educated young adults-- are out there ready to stand in the bread line. I knew this reality existed, but I fear it's bigger than I previously thought.
Not only this, you still have that group of people who work for a living, can't manage their finances, and will still vote for this clown thinking they are going to get something in return.
There's too many free loaders, and now the free loaders are "educated".
What is strange is that it still isn't easy to categorically distinguish between his acts of stupidity and his acts of intrigue. The latter can always be assumed within the framework of the larger certainty that he is working from a malevolent covert plan. But he more often than not also leaves a perfectly believable impression that he's just a complete idiot. In the American sense.
If that also is intentional then we are dealing with a once in a millennium criminal genius of the political variety. That's bad because no one seems to even be prepared to deal with him on the level of his face value.
... until some of them try to wake up and improve their standard of living, then they'll find out who's paying.
See my tagline....
In believing they can define intelligence as the ability to be deceptive, the progressives are the ultimate fools.
Obama was right about 51.5% of the voters in 2008. 2012 will show us how many of those idiots are teachable.
