“this article sounds as if it is the work of Catholics who want to point the finger and say ‘but...but...but....THEY did it TOO!’
I see it differently. I think the article is making the case that the Catholic Church should not be unfairly perceived to be the primary source for sex-abuse problems when such problems are actually occurring at an equal or higher rate in other churches. By the way, I am not and have never been, Catholic, I just don’t think Catholics should be singled out for this problem while ignoring the same offenses perpetrated by others. The problem should be confronted everywhere it exists, including, but not limited to, the Catholic Church.
Thanks d-back - agree. It’s POLITICAL - the Pravda piece, link above, outlines it fairly well.

Thanks for posting. This is a problem that needs pre-emptive addressing in more prominent ways...the tendency is to hide it under the rug. [But no evidence of the hiding per this article]
The associate minister in my church has been accused of sexual abuse of a minor boy. As soon as the senior minister found out about the accusations, he was canned. The local media was informed by the senior pastor. This is a Presbyterian Church. The Presbytery, the next higher body, will investigate and, if the minister is confirmed as guilty, he will be stripped of his ordination. No pussyfooting around, or moving him on to another presbytery, or hiding him oversees in some conclave beyond the reach of American law, or allowing him to continue in the church. He will face court proceedings and possibly jail time. There’s an example of how a Protestant church handles an abuse case.
Forgotten Study: Abuse in School 100 Times Worse than by Priests

WASHINGTON, DC, April 1, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) In the last several weeks such a quantity of ink has been spilled in newspapers across the globe about the priestly sex abuse scandals, that a casual reader might be forgiven for thinking that Catholic priests are the worst and most common perpetrators of child sex abuse.
But according to Charol Shakeshaft, the researcher of a little-remembered 2004 study prepared for the U.S. Department of Education, “the physical sexual abuse of students in schools is likely more than 100 times the abuse by priests.”
After effectively disappearing from the radar, Shakeshafts study is now being revisited by commentators seeking to restore a sense of proportion to the mainstream coverage of the Church scandal.
According to the 2004 study the most accurate data available at this time indicates that nearly 9.6 percent of students are targets of educator sexual misconduct sometime during their school career.
Educator sexual misconduct is woefully under-studied, writes the researcher. We have scant data on incidence and even less on descriptions of predators and targets. There are many questions that call for answers.

I read that the Department of Education expected it to increase to 10% or thereabouts but can’t find the link. It would be a very worthwhile project for someone in the media to investigate if it’s really the kids that they’re concerned about...In the reports I’ve read about the CC it was teenage boys and homosexual priests (same with Protestant Pastors, Boy Scout Leaders...) and it appears to be the same here yet pedophilia is the only description mentioned in media outlets.
They read the news and they learned. Good for them. They should adopt the CC policies which have been in place now for years - it’s such an excellent program it’s been used now by many institutions.
The article in the other thread was posted from a dishonest gay blog.
It wasn’t exactly trustworthy, and some people were taking it as gospel truth and avoiding questions about the source.
I don’t see the usual suspects here.
I wonder why...
That’s good and proactive.
He should also be executed if found guilty in a court of law.
Anyone sexually abusing a kid is pure evil.
Especially someone representing a church.
it seems the Catholic Church has not responded as forcefully as they should have to this.
Why do you look at the speck that is in your brothers eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Matthew 7:3
