RE The melting. There was an article in Kyodo news yesterday or the day before where their scientific society said that they believe that some of the fuel in 1 and 3 melted and dropped to the floor of the reactor like ‘grain’. These small separated drops of fuel are believed to be preferable to large lumps which are hard to cool. So although melted fuel is not a desired outcome, the scientific society believed that the drops of melted fuel were being cooled and could be kept cool based on the fact that they were small grain sizes. If this is true then it is rather good news in that their is no large lump that water can’t move through to cool the core. I know, I know, melted fuel is not good news but the fact that it is believed to be able to be kept cool going forward is, IMHO good news.

I stand by my reply — catastrophes (or lack there of) —
are indicated by the presence/absence of bodies. It is not a difficult concept to understand. But then again, one with
even 1/2 brain could never, ever believe a reactor sarcophaguswould cost 1/4 trillion $. Only an ouright hysterical lunitic would crow on his dung heap, as you repeatedly didin your accusations of TEMPCO’s attempt to hide station blackout. Once again, I would believe an expert in the field of nuclear energy as opposed to you, who sports a popcorn popper in place of a cranium........

I would take his response as one who does not support Nuclear Energy...since still not saying either way.

I know! How hard is it really to just state your position?

've been lurking (post maybe once per year) since ‘04 and never thought I would see such crap!

I feel like I'm visiting DU. It's tiring.

These GOOGLE educated experts on nuclear physics and chemistry are absurd!

I call it the University of Wikipedia

As an aside to Occam's razor, I am most likely to believe REAL nuclear physicists and nuclear plant operators, rather than big bags of hot wind.

I graduated in the 95th percentile at Naval Nuclear Power School. I might just know a little bit more about reactors than some other posters here give me credit for.

All this conspiracy BS is so tiring!

Indubitably

I see that I have been mistaking you for someone else near the end of this thread. My apologies.

No problem. (But I think now you can understand my ire.)

I believe I made that mistake because I have witnessed your actual performance on other threads where you play the role of contemptuous apologist,

I don't believe I've been an apologist; perhaps you can point out where I have been one. I do, however, like to correct mistakes made by posters who clearly have no background in this field.

insulting anyone who posts news articles or makes comment about the nuke crisis that you don’t like,

If you check my history, you'll see that typically the insults are directed at me first. I may have been harsh on some posters right away, but that is usually due to them posting something so absurd it insults my intelligence.

rejecting outright statements supported by links to TEPCO press releases,

I don't recall outright rejection of TEPCO press statements on my part. The problem with press statements is that any technical language used by people that understand the situation is filtered through people that do not understand the situation. There have been many contradictory statements made by TEPCO and the press. I reserve judgement until the facts are known.

demanding to know the credentials of FReepers who post links you don’t like etc.

What exactly is wrong with that? If someone gives medical advice, wouldn't you ask if they have been trained in the field before taking it as fact?

I think it is a helpful filtering tool. Why waste my time reading endless articles at links posted by posters that are not knowledgeable enough to write their own argument?

Just up the thread you have one of your buddies posting links to sites claiming there were UFOs above Fukushima, that telekinesis has been proven true, and that these reactors could explode like an atomic bomb.

You personally posted two links in which you said claimed that a new sarcophagus for Chernobyl would cost $250 billion to make. Why would I even bother going to that link? Absurd. You're only off by a factor of a 100. Try 1.5 billion Euros. (about $2.1 billion)

Oddly enough, it is your contemptuous treatment of those of us who post things you don’t like

Um, hello? You posted to me first. You insulted me first. Am I not allowed to respond to personal attacks?

that you base your entitlement on - it’s as though you think with every insult you offer us, we owe you.

The only think you owed me was proof of the accusations you made against me, such as that I made false statements, revised history, made claims about a documentary I never saw and called the turn out at Chernobyl "great."

Now that you have have admitted that you were mistaken due to thinking I was someone else, you don't owe me anything.

You demand to see our credentials

I think that people reading these threads looking for information on this subject deserve to know just who is giving it to them.

I have posted my credentials throughout these threads. I'm qualified to talk about this field. On a legal topic, people would be wise to listen more closely to lawyers than pilots for example. If you have a question about getting a pilot's license, maybe you can ignore the lawyers.

How does this not make sense to you? And what is more curious is why are you so embarrassed about your career or field of study?

(as if posting a TEPCO press release or Japanese news article naturally requires that).

Right, because thousands of replies posting contradictory and often erroneous information is really helpful to Free Republic.

I owe you nothing. I post here per the rules and your propensity to criticize others doesn’t earn you the right to review our credentials or demand answers to questions on topics of your choice.

Are you implying that I do not post here per the rules or that I am not allowed to criticize people that criticize me?

And if you don't want to actually have to expose your lack of credentials, perhaps you shouldn't throw a poster in the "pro-nuke fake expert" category on the very first contact you make with that poster. You brought this on yourself.

Now everyone that reads this thread knows you have absolutely no background in the nuclear field and that I not only finished Naval Nuclear Power School in the top 5%, but qualified to operate S6G reactors, both the D1G and D2W core versions.

Although I see why you’d want to change the subject to US nuclear power because we keep discussing world events in Japan that you don’t want discussed.

For crying out loud! You're the one that in your very first post to me you said this:

Is it really so strange that people of the world might be interested to talk about the potential tandem melt down of multiple nuclear reactors and possible effects?

and

You will understand why we divided our attention among tsunami victims and the far reaching, long lasting effects of the nuclear disaster later.

To you, the effects of events in Japan might mean the price of fish, to others like me--since we realize the implications for the nuclear field--it means the cost of electricity in the US.

What happened in Japan will affect permits in the US. That is an effect of this disaster. It is not off topic. This may have huge ramifications to our way of life.

Do you realize that the US has more reactors than any other country, including France? We get 20% of our electricity from nuclear plants in the US.It's the only major source of electricity not impacted by the recent SCOTUS decision regarding the EPA and regulation of CO2. I just wanted to see where you stood on the issue of building reactors in the US.

I appreciate you taking the time to explain more about becquerels and radioactivity. The various methods of measurement can be a little confusing, especially to a layperson, and understandable explanations really help bridge the learning curve.

Thanks, SargeK
