“...with 16 named storms expected this year...”
With every puny storm getting named now, so that The Weather Channel has something to hype for a few days, it’s not surprising that we get this forecast every year. Nothing of consequence happened last year, even though there were 19 named storms. However, the National Weather Service did manage to mess up several holidays for coastal businesses with their scare tactics, costing businesses thousands.

Either last year or 2009, they were naming tropical depressions.

“Nothing of consequence happened last year, even though there were 19 named storms”
Two storms were retired last year. I would hardly consider that “Nothing”.

It only takes one strong Hurricane to mess up a section of coast.
I’ll pray for a slow boring season.

The USA has not had a hurricane make landfall since Hurricane Ike in 2008.
What is your source for this?
Tried to check it out but Google is not responding - actually everything online is slow today.

Last season was accurately predicted as busy. It’s difficult to think of 2010 as a busy season when most of the storms were Atlantic fish. There’s busy, then there is 2004/2005 OMG scary busy.

Down one from the end of the year estimate, or at least that is what was said on the radio today.

You want to take bets on when they revise it downwards? I'll say "August 6th".
When betting on the number of hurricanes, ALWAYS take the "under".
