Why didn’t they start out with $250 billion in cuts and then negotiated down to the $100 billion. I would have had more respect if they did that. There’s a term for that in Pyschology or Sociology, where one starts off with a high demand and then “compromises” down to what he really wanted anyway. Can’t remember the term or phrase for it though.
The pathetic thing is, the Dems aren’t even very good at what they’re doing (this isn’t Reagan-Gorbachev facing off in Reykjavik by any means), and the Establishment GOP is still looking like oafs.

The Dems got 862 Billion for stimulus passed within weeks when they wanted, without sweat. And he’s biting his nails over a tiny fraction of that amount.

Sadly, I don’t think either of those guys has some insidious, ulterior motive to betray people. I just think they aren’t very shrewd politicians, and they freak out when they face a lot of political heat, instead of communicating their goals adequately to the public.
