That is out of 180 or so school days a year?
The entitlement mentality, double-decking the unsuspecting taxpayer.
They would only have to work 1/3 of the year. When you consider a 9-month school year, weekends, holidays, Christmas - whoops! - I mean Winter break, Easter - whoops! - I mean Spring break, 90 days of sick leave cuts the work year down to four months and change.
Oh, and I forgot vacation days, so it’s probably more like 1/4 of the year.
What makes you think they were dumb, or idiots, as opposed to working hand in glove with the unions to rip off the Canadian taxpayer? Why should they say no, after all? The unions are part of why they got elected in the first place.
A lot of teachers are young and in their child-producing years, and 3 months off is longer than most businesses allow, at least with pay, but not a bad use of extended, accumulated leave.
Ummm . . . 90 days would be 3 months, all right - if it included weekends. But I doubt that anyone would take a sick day so they didn't have to teach school on Saturday.90 days out of 180 is definitely half a school year. And since a school year is only about 3/4 of a calendar year, that doesn't leave a whole lot of time to have to work. And unions nationwide are talking about the "horrible" Gov. Walker and talking in ads about slave-driving fat cat bosses!!!
For real? School year is 180 days average . They could be sick half the school year? I think my spouse may get 7 sick days a year. The teacher get to vacation as much as Obama , oh yeah, I mean be sick not play. No one is sick that much unless they have major medical issues.
And why not? It's not their money they are giving away.
90 sick-days per year is absurd. (There are only 261 or 260 weekdays in a year minus holidays anyway.)
But I want to object to the notion that “teachers only work 180 days a year”. That line of reasoning is a bit like asserting that a lawyer only “works” on the days he enters a courtroom. Teachers only meet their classes 180 days out of the year.
In addition to that they work at on “teacher in-service days”, ranging in content from the equivalent of staff-meetings to continuing education, admittedly of dubious utility since it often simply communicates the latest enthusiasms for some “college of education” (both during the “school year” on days the kids are off and during their “summer vacation”), at course preparation (quite a lot during their “summer vacation” if they are worth their salt, as well as on weekends) and grading (often on weekends).
You’re right, my ‘mind’ was thinking 90 days as both half a school year and also as 3 calendar months. So 90 days for teachers would be one full semester. The 180 day school year applies to students/class days only, tho. Teachers also have ‘in service’ days before and after the school year, and a couple of work days when students are off, but the bulk is that 180 teaching days.
Even at a 180 day school year, I would have no objection to a teacher (or any other employee) accumulating 90 or even 180 work days sick leave for an extraordinary medical situation. Say a 50 year old teacher who’s been working nearly 30 years has a heart attack and/or needs major surgery. Missing a semester or even full school year after all that time would be acceptable. On top of the physical hardship, s/he shouldn’t have to lose his/her income as well. Many companies have voluntary sick leave pools to keep the employee’s income going through a hardship.
But back to Oshkosh, I can’t imagine a contract that would allow every employee to have sick leave for half the year, every year. Do they give them personal leave for the other 90 days ?
90 Sick Days is absurd. It is IMMORAL and a VICE. If you’re sick that many days you belong in a nursing home. There’s a word for these types of people...I have a brother like this...its call a JACKWAGON. Useless and discardable.
The average in Wisconsin is the teachers work 167 days a year and don’t work 198 days a year. They work 7 Hours a day.
Well those poor teachers nearly work half a year and they nearly work 8 hours a day and......and........ (/sarcasm)
mark for future reference.
