who shot who down?
Could be.
Also if enough residents of a city are armed they can put up a pretty thick small arms barrage at a low altitude.
I could see what appears to be at least one ejection seat, but only a small drouge parachute deployed at the end of a line over one of them. I believe that these are to orient the seat for proper main canopy deployment, but it looked to be too low for him to get the main chute open in time.
In another post an observer mentioned the Pilot’s body being brought in to a morgue, which would tend to confirm that speculation. I don’t think anyone walked away from that landing.
Another speculation I had was that Daffy may have taken his Pilot & Aircrews parachutes away in order to keep them from bailing out over “Rebel” held territory and defecting, as a couple of them apparently have.
Didn’t know that...
I guess then the last thing to go through that pilots mind was his...[expletive deleted] ;-)
That makes a lot of sense. In land miles, Benghazi's closer to Egypt than to Tripoli. If the eastern rebels asked to be annexed Egypt could sure use the oil.
Right now, Nasser might look pretty good, the Islamo-Fascists hated him.
Unfortunately he was in bed with the Soviets and the Cold War eclipsed everything else. Later, the Soviets got so embedded in Egypt Sadat became convinced they would kill him and install a red puppet. He decided shaking hands with Menachem Begin and moving Egypt into the U.S. sphere was the smartest way out. But he got killed anyway.
