I deal with study of fungi, and such a discovery would be HUGE news in the mycology community. Haven’t heard a peep.
It would be the equivalent of a major nova in astronomy. But nobody’s said a thing.
Darn it.
Forgot to post the link.
After finding my error, I decided to test the link before I posted it and it does not work.
I’m not betting where these leftie dingbats are concerned. :) I really thought it was on the up and up simply because a (Ret) Col was involved but one can hardly trust anyone today or the yesterdays for that matter.
I’m always up to believe in government bumbling, but before I believe in a whole new category of life, I’d like to see some evidence.
food bump GMF
Started as HR2748 (Passed House early last year) that was taken up by the Senate as S.510 which passed the Senate in the Lame Duck Session late at night with a voice vote. When they realized it was a spending bill and had to originate in the House it was read in and replaced HR2751 (unrelated bill) which was sent back to the Senate and on Dec 19, 2010 it passed in the Senate with changes by Voice Vote. According to GovTrack a record of each senators position was not kept. (I have a record of the vote when passed, might not include the changes) On Dec 21, 2010 A vote in the House of Representatives to agree with the other chamber's changes passed by roll call vote.
They were bought-off by Global Ag and the cost estimate for this bill is 1.4 Trillion Dollars. (this WILL translate into food price increases.)
My garden plans have been trippled and I planted 31 new fruit trees, blueberry bushes, blackberry bushes and strawberries. We have not had chickens on our farm in over 60 years, but I plan to add that next. Over reacting? Possibly, but I don't think so.
It’s not my day either.
It was my understanding that he is a U.S. Citizen. (naturalized).
I agree with everything that you’ve said. Just FYI, here’s the article from Reuters (could be a nut nut site, haha):
“Scientist warns on safety of Monsanto’s Roundup”
http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/02/24/us-monsanto-roundup-idUSTRE71N4XN20110224
For what it’s worth I entirely agree with you when you said this:
“Even if the real Dr. Huber wrote this letter, its still not evidence that the claims in it are true.”
As you said earlier, the posted article (maybe) got some of the background information wrong, according to Reuters it’s:
“Huber coordinates a committee of the American Phytopathological Society as part of the USDA National Plant Disease Recovery System.”
Frankly, I like holistic practices. However, I would not forgo medical issues in favor of “natural” care. Back during my existentialist period, one of my friends was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She chose to forgo the Drs. recommended treatment. We tried to get her to reconsider, but she was a true believer. sadly, it killed her.
“They were bought-off by Global Ag and the cost estimate for this bill is 1.4 Trillion Dollars. (this WILL translate into food price increases.)”
OMG!!!
“My garden plans have been trippled and I planted 31 new fruit trees, blueberry bushes, blackberry bushes and strawberries. We have not had chickens on our farm in over 60 years, but I plan to add that next.”
My concern is that if the EPA pass more regs onto the small farmer those regs will also fall on us and it’ll end up being illegal to grow our own food. For me, I live in urbania, but have started to stock up with the commie store Trader Joe’s food which is supposed to be organic and it’s reasonably priced. Do you know anything about their food?
Bump!
Found a bio of the Doctor. Impressive. Which unfortunately doesn’t mean he can’t become a fanatic for a cause.

Don M. Huber Dr. Huber is Professor Emeritus
of Plant Pathology at Purdue University,
West Lafayette, IN. He received B.S. and M.S.
degrees from the University of Idaho (1957,
1959), a Ph-D from Michigan State University
(1963), and is a graduate of the US Army Command
& General Staff College and Industrial
College of the Armed Forces. He was Cereal
Pathologist at the University of Idaho for 8
years before joining the Department of Botany
& Plant Pathology at Purdue University in 1971.
His agricultural research the past 50 years has
focused on the epidemiology and control of
soilborne plant pathogens with emphasis on
microbial ecology, cultural and biological controls,
and physiology of host-parasite relationships.
Research also includes nitrogen metabolism,
micronutrient physiology, inhibition of
nitrification, and nutrient-disease interactions.
In addition to his academic positions and research,
Dr. Huber has had several concurrent
careers including 14 years as a professional labor-
relations mediator with 7 years service on
the Indiana Education Employment Relations
Board as a Mediatory/Fact Finder/Conciliator,
and served 12 years on two school boards with
recognition as a Master Board Member from
the Indiana School Board Association and Honesty
in Public Service Award from Taxpayers
United For Fairness. He retired in 1995 as
Associate Director of the Armed Forces Medical
Intelligence Center (Colonel) after 41+
years of active and reserve military service.
He has received various awards for his scientific
accomplishments and contributions to
government. Dr. Huber is an active scientific
reviewer; international research cooperator
with projects in Argentina, Australia, Brazil,
Chile, China, Costa Rica, Denmark, Germany,
Japan, Mexico, and Russia; and a consultant to
academia, industry, and government. He is author
or co-author of over 300 journal articles,
Experiment Station Bulletins, research presentations,
book chapters and review articles; 3
books, and 84 special invited publications. He
is internationally recognized for his expertise
in the development of nitrification inhibitors to
improve the efficiency of N fertilizers, interactions
of the form of nitrogen, manganese and
other nutrients in disease, herbicide-nutrientdisease
interactions, techniques for rapid microbial
identification, and cultural control of
plant diseases. His greatest accomplishment
has been his marriage to Paula Huber and their
11 children and 35 grandchildren. Dr. Huber
currently serves as APS coordinator of the
USDA National Plant Disease Recovery System
(NPDRS).
You sir, are correct, in 1961 (just looked it up to be sure). Nice catch.
I agree that it would be “huge” (As you put it, in fact it’s very small, haha), but the same concerns over professionalism, I think would come into play here. until he knows more, he may not find it expedient to publish any papers, etc. I’m not saying you’re incorrect, I just don’t draw the conclusion that something would be plastered everywhere just yet. But I DO in fact understand the catch 22 that’s you’re saying (as I gather it) “If it’s so big, it’s a national emergency, it’d be big enough for more scientists to have begun discussing it.”
I don’t know, obviously, but I have an opinion. (And I do know the saying...) :)
What gets me is the lack of interest in the new life form.
This is the rough equivalent of mentioning in passing that we had indisputable evidence of intelligent life on another planet, and they had told us to be careful of global warming due to CO2 accumulation in the atmosphere.
No interest at all in the ETs, only in how their discovery can be used to promote a politica/cultural cause.
For anybody with a scientific background, this is a blazing WTF moment.
Also the apparent leap to the conclusion that these “new organisms” are caused by Roundup. Such a conclusion would take a LOT of research to reach.
Thanks for the great information. Very impressive bio and with 11 kids he doesn’t sound like he’s a loonie tune. In writing the letter, he knew it would get lots of attention, don’t think he’d put his name on the line if he wasn’t being serious. I’ll be following the story and most interested to learn Vilsack’s aka Obama’s aka the Banksters response.
Signing off now, but would appreciate a note if any actual evidence turns up. :)
Joe, not sure if this is within your purview of interest?
“Trader Joe’s food”
They have a policy of no Chinese originated food.
