I really don’t get the trend (or is it the new norm?) for parents to be their kids “buddies.” Parents should love their kids, of course. But I’ve always felt they also should be the authority figure and the one who is willing to be the “bad guy” when it comes to setting limits and steering their child away from bad choices. It strikes me that it’s a lot harder to do that when you’re “just one of the girls/boys.”
Keep in mind, though, I’m a confirmed bachelor with a cat. So, I’m not exactly a leading authority on parenting. :-)
