I would think that Iraq would be at least yellow now. Purple under Saddam, but even women can vote now. I know it’s not Jeffersonian Democracy, but it’s a darned site freer than it used to be.

What a coincidence!! The countries with the LEAST or NO freedom is colored BLUE on the map. In the US, states controlled by Liberals and Democrats are colored BLUE. HMMMM.
By the way, the amount of FREEDOM, Human dignity, and LIBERTY in ISRAEL matters not a whit.
The difficulty in the Middle East is simply the very existence of the State of Israel.

You might want to get a second opinion from any Christian in Iraq; that is of the few left who haven't been driven out, imprisoned or murdered.

BIGGEST mistake our RINO, "Compassionate Conservative" did was listen to the likes of "Clueless Condi" and let himself be duped by Foggy Bottom and other Islamo-Fascist supporters in to allowing either and/or both Iraq and Afghanistan to form new Governments with Sharia/Islam being the "Controlling Authority!"

That in itself doomed us from ever achieving any true relationship with either or their becoming an ally, much less allowing for "Rights" or "Liberties" for their citizens as we know them.

Someone should have studied what we imposed on Japan after WWII and prevented them from incorporating--in any way, shape or form--Shinto into their Government.

Of course back then, we didn't have the UN or any other Multicultural, PC, Bovine Excrement (or World Court) to contend with. Nevertheless, we had just kicked their as* and could have made that demand, but wussed out and now all our efforts are for nought.

As a Nam Vet, I predict, sadly, both will end up the same, if not worst.

Problem is, freedom doesn’t work with Islam. The Chaldean Christians in Iraq are finding that out as will increasingly the Copts. When 82% of the population thinks those that apostacize from Islam deserve death there’s not much hope for democracy unless the culture is remade from the ground up.

I didn’t say it was “green”...but for sure better in many respects than it was under Saddam. It is an Islamic country so it will probably never be really “free”.

Addendum to my last post on Sharia, Iraq and Afghanistan:

Not only did we NOT insist that Sharia/Islam not be allowed to become the controlling authority, but in years to come, when history is written, this will be seen as...

.....ONE OF THE MOST SHAMEFUL PERIODS IN OUR HISTORY...

....for doing Zero, Zip, Nada, NOTHING, (not so much as lift a little finger or even raise this issue publicly) to protect the hunreds of thousands of Christians who were living in both countries.

A POX on BOTH Bush and Obummer for talking out of both sides of their mouths about "Human Rights" and ignoring the plights of the "Infidels" in those countries...when we had our Military there who could have done something....anything..if ordered to.

Sad, very sad!

Remember that Bush repeatedly stated “Islam is a religion of peace”...so either he was totally clueless about Islam....or....lied about the impact that Islamics would have in so-called new “democracies” in the Middle East.

Our biggest mistake post 9/11 was not nuking Afghanistan on 9/12

“unless the culture is remade from the ground up”

This is what we need to be thinking about. The Japanese had a fanatical belief system that was rooted deeply into Japanese history but we were able to reform the country. I guess that back then we understood that CULTURE IS EVERYTING. It is a people’s culture that shapes their thinking and their government.

Unless we find a way to remake the Muslim culture from the ground up, we will never change the situation. The mullahs need to have their power taken away from them before anything can change.

How can there be human rights in countries where the religion feeds the people hatred every day. Has everybody in the State Department flunked history? The Koran teaches the genocide of Jews and the murder and subjugation of all non-muslims and women.

The creature in OUR whitehouse has appointed dedicated muslims in Homeland Security who in turn, probably, hired a bunch more muslims to “protect?” this country.
