The facts are there for all to to see. The pilot broke an arrestor cable during landing, didn’t have his revs up when he obviously should have (as _anyone_ would have) and the schmuck lost his ride. See, he didn’t have what it _really_ takes to be a Naval Aviator. He simply didn’t have...The Right Stuff.

Ah, and so it is.....
Still that guy would have taken his plane to a salt water wash even if he had maintained full throttle throughout the landing - even after catching the cable. By the time the cable broke, it had slowed the plane so much it would have been physically impossible to accelerate to flying speed before running out of deck, even on afterburner.
A splash was inevitable.
This was going to happen regardless of the level of “stuff” the pilot might have had stashed away in his reserves. All he could do was to punch out.
